During the Mythical State of Jefferson Brovet (the ride where I didn’t bonk), we met this character named Kevin Krueger who makes Skid Town Bicycles. These things were built specifically for bombing fireroads and double track and while there ain’t much information on the ‘net about these klunkers, Yonder Journal did manage to capture a few suave gents posing on some of Kevin’s machines.

I felt like it was worth sharing today, especially with Bene’s Trek gracing the front page of the site.

From what I can gather, the Mythical State of Jefferson Brovet is almost ready to launch. I can’t wait to see the photos from that ride!

Jon Bailey is a bit of a legend in Colorado. Hell, I’m sure his legacy resonates at least to Japan at this point. At this point, we’ve all come to accept the fact that the Brovet is cursed! Yonder Journal was in Austin for Brovet #04 this past weekend and after all the warm weather we had the past few weeks, mother nature turned on us yet again.

The temperature dropped over 40 degrees in 7 hours and as we set out into the mid-30 degree, rainy, windy weather, all we could do was laugh. Ok, so no one cried, but we were all pretty broken.

Even though we didn’t finish the route I planned, we all completed the altered course. Check out a few Instagram photos from the ride below! Of course, there will be more from Yonder Journal and myself in the future…

The guys from Yonder Journal are in Austin for 48 hours, 30 of which, we’ll be spending riding 300 miles on a route I’ve pulled together. For now, the ride is being called the Enchanted Rock Permanent.

Even though the weather was in the 80’s here all week, tomorrow, it’s supposed to be in the low 30’s, rainy and a 20 mph headwind tomorrow.  So, what I’m saying is, it’ll be interesting!

This is one of my favorite people on the planet. He’s inspired me to remember just one thing about cycling: have fun (or at least look rad). Yonder Journal has just posted an interview with Ty, right after he completed the 2013 Tour Divide.

“I was always tired to a certain degree because any day that you ride a mountain bike one hundred and forty miles you’re going to be tired. And if you wake up and do it again, and again, for twenty-three days in a row, you’re going to be tired all the time. So basically I was tired all the time. I feel great now though.”

Bonking. Everybody bonks bro. We’ve all been there and if you haven’t, then you’re not challenging yourself. Not that I’m proud of myself, or particularly happy to have dealt with the year or so of heckling from co-riders on this Brovet, but hey, that’s life.

After almost a year to date, Yonder Journal just posted the Guide to Brovet 02 and it’s a great read. Not to mention the great photos! Also, if you’ve ever wanted to read someone really dig into my failed efforts, don’t miss it.

I’m not posting a whole lot today but the guys at Yonder Journal are killing it with these Mythical State of Jefferson Permanent Purist bottles. With artwork by Joshua Porter, each bottle features educational art and an important history lesson. The best part about the bottles is that you can help fund the Brovet 3: Mythical State of Jefferson Permanent (MSOJP) printed book later in 2013.

Yonder Journal is fucking killing it. The latest report features fat bike apocalypse training in the Canyonlands. I don’t want to give away too much, but this photo-heavy story is amazing and worth the read. Head to Yonder Journal to check it out.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve probably figured out that we made it. It was tough, but fun. For such a large group to finish the ride without any major issues made it even more enjoyable.

The State of Jefferson, at least what we saw of it, truly is mythical. We ended up totaling 233 miles and over 17,000′. In true Brovet spirit, we stopped a lot, swam in rivers, streams, waterfalls and dirt napped when necessary. We flew down frontage roads, chattered our teeth on ruts, lost water bottles, found water bottles, avoided rattle snakes and drank lots of water…

Starting today, I’m setting out for a ride in the State of Jefferson with 10 friends. We’ll be taking on 250 miles and 32,000′ of elevation in a 24 hour-ish time period through some of the most remote roads in Oregon and California. It’s a true Brovet… We’re actually beginning the ride on Tuesday, but will be at a remote camp site all day today. Expect a black-out period here on the site until Friday.

One of the people associated directly with Yonder Journal is Hahn Rossman but that’s only one of the many projects Hahn is involved with. He’s a contributor for Bicycle Quarterly, a Rapha Continental rider and a seemingly endless supply of ride knowledge. Oh and he’s an accomplished frame builder. All from a Philly native.

Vernor shot this photo of Hahn on a “ride” and it’s gotta be one of my favorite “ride” photos to date. Although, I hope someone got in the river…

Next week, I’m heading out with Hahn and a few other individuals to #GoYonder once again. I can’t wait!
