Some say the classics never die and with a bike like this, it’s hard to argue. I’ve got a few randoms floating in from some film I developed here in Melbourne and this beautiful Gios that’s currently parked at Northside Wheelers deserves its own post.

I came across these two exceptional photos on Flickr earlier this week and had to share. The top photo was taken at the Hoosier Pass in May 1976 and the bottom, the Blue Ridge Parkway in late July 1976 during the Bikecentennial76 Oregon to Virginia trip 12 friends embarked on. Only 9 completed and you can read more at DDsiple’s Flickr.

This made the rounds on Monday, but I wanted to save it for a little mid-week eye candy. Here’s a day in the workshop at Faggin Bikes, an establishment that’s been building steel race steeds since 1945.

Everyone loves a well documented track bike, right? Tracko just posted this one up and it’s too good to not share. Check out more of this disco party Panasonic blue beauty at the Tracko Flickr!

Usually when you see Campagnolo Pista hubs with drillium, chances are, they came from the Paramount facilities in the 70’s, complete with Paramount track bikes. Rumor has it that they misdrilled them too large for spoke holes and had to re-drill them, giving the flange a nice, light, facelift.*

While the technological advancements (i.e. weight) of hub designs have improved since then, there’s still that nostalgic allure of a classic Italian component with little circles cut out of it. As others have noted “nothing is lighter than a hole“. Drillium Revival are the minds behind this masterpiece hubset pictured here. Their holes were drilled intentionally and will be gracing one of Chris Bishop‘s 2013 NAHBS bikes.

While Dan from Shifter Bikes supplies the obsessive, compulsive and meticulous workflow, Andy steps back and documents for the world to see. You’ve gotta check out the full photo gallery at Fyxo. It should be inspiring to anyone who finds themselves drawn into the details.

Anyone can buy a black Campagnolo Record seatpost and get it anodized black but can they then document it as such? As with anything FYXO, expect the utmost of class.

Chris Bishop has so many NOS Columbus tubesets and the MS, or multi-shaped, tubes are some of the most unique. Here’s a profile section of the tubes. From left to right, non drive chainstay, drive side chainstay, top tube, down tube and Air seat stays. Keep at it Chris. This is a great photo.

I can’t even begin to think where Merckx Mondays would be without the assistance from Andy White from Fyxomatosis. The man probably buys a new Merckx frame every other week and when he builds it up, it’s pristine. Dura Ace was the kit of choice back in this era. Oh and having a model in a 7 Eleven kit is a lot nicer than propping the bike up with a stick!
