I awoke this morning to see this article on the NY Times called How to Win: Track Cycling. No less than 30 seconds into the video, the rider slides his foot into a pair of Hold Fast FRS. How cool is that? I know the US team has been using these for some time now. Maybe it’s time for a special edition track racing pair? This is quite the image and I’m glad Death Spray Custom posted it because I would never have considered picking up an issue of Sideburn magazine before. Has anyone seen the full article? Is it worth the purchase? So rad…

I scooped this one off Affinity’s blog. Sinda Jukka is a long-time Affinity supporter and he just sent Jason these photos from an afternoon at the track, where the locals raced to celebrate 60 years of the Käpylä Olympic Velodrome in Helsinki.

I like good vibes, track bikes and races, which about sums up this video from the Golden Saddle Cyclery Grand Prix at Encino Velodrome:

“Golden Saddle Cyclery hosted an amazing day of races to raise funds for the Encino Velodrome. The races consisted of a 3 category Omnium as well as a separate sprint race. Aside from racing, the highlight would have to be the camaraderie and the amazing food prepared by Todd of Burrito Project fame. Golden Saddle would like to thank the racers, spectators and all of our sponsors who donated prizes to help keep this amazing facility open. A special Thank You goes out to Keiron, of Ride The Black Line, for throwing this great event and allowing us to participate. Make sure to make it out to the rest of the summer series going on through out the months of July and August.

Giro‘s newest helmet design looks like the cross between a TT helmet and a road helmet. That’s exactly what the Air Attack helmet is. Read up:

“Giro, the cycling world’s design leader since 1985, announced today the Air AttackTM, defining the next generation of cycling helmets. With a systematic approach to design and wind tunnel–tested performance, the Air AttackTM offers reduced aerodynamic drag, light weight and tremendous cooling power. Taken together, these factors can help riders to use their power more efficiently, creating what Giro calls “Free Speed”. The Air Attack will be available in two versions – including one with a magnetically-anchored optical shield, with MSRP of $200 USD and $240 USD respectively. The helmet will be available in Spring 2013.”

Brenton recently spent some time at the Alpenrose Velodrome with Team Sizzle Pie, a Portland-based racing squad. He shot a bunch of great medium format photos. You should really check the rest out at his Flickr.

Say what you will about some guys riding a velodrome in shorts and sneakers but I’m stoked to see people riding track bikes and fixed gears in a small city in Lithuania called  Panevėžys.

One of my longtime favorite Dutch architecture firms, NL Architects, just completed a schematic design for a cycling pavilion in Hainan, China. The elegant form of the roof is the shape of a velodrome, allowing people to race around in all-left loops. One critique would be the lack of spectator seating but maybe there will be a tower in the pavilion’s site to allow for that.
