The Radavist 2016 Calendar: December

This is the twelfth layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “the Ladder” Shot with a Canon 1dx and a 24-70 f2.8 in the Ben Lomond National Park, Tasmania.

Ben Lomond national park is renown all over Australia for its skiing. The locals say “if you can ski Ben Lomond, you can ski anywhere” due to its rocky landscape and shallow, often frozen snow. The same can be said about Ben Lomond’s infamous “Jacob’s Ladder” climb. A series of snaking dirt switchbacks ascend to the top of Ben Lomond Mountain at 5,150 ft and resemble many of the iconic European road climbs, but it’s all dirt! If you can climb this road and the climb’s approach through the Tassie bush, you should have no problem tackling any other ride!

This is the eleventh layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Tunnel Vision” Shot with a Leica M-P typ 240 and a Leica Macro-Elmar 90mm in the Angeles National Forest, California.

Escape from LA, via highway 2 and you’ll find yourself in another world. Just past Cloud Burst Summit, awaits one of the best sections of paved road in LA county. On our recent trip from Clouds to Cacti, there were many incredible photo spots, yet this one in particular really stuck with me over the days.

The Radavist 2016 Calendar: October

This is the tenth layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Riding High” Shot with a Leica M-P typ 240 and a Leica Macro-Elmar 90mm in the Inyo National Forest, California.

The Inyo National Forest is home to California’s most prized peaks. One of which you can ride – or hike – a bike to the summit. White Mountain Peak is not for the weak of heart. Weather can change rapidly, there is no water and lots of exposure. If you can make it through all that, a staggering elevation of 14,252′ awaits you. Luckily the landscape is so alien that it provides ample distraction from your aching body.

The Radavist 2016 Calendar: September

This is the seventh layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Surprise Sunset” Shot with a Canon 70d with a 18-135mm lens in Gray Creek, British Columbia

On the second day of their tour, Found in the Mountains tackled a whopping 40 miles and 6,500′ climbing, on their fully-loaded Soma Wolverines. As they climbed out of a valley to the Gray Creek summit, they were greeted with a full nuker. Gray Creek is coincidentally the highest dirt pass in Canada!

This is the seventh layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Descent Shadow.” Shot with a Leica M240 and a 21mm Super‑Elmar in Smygehuk, Sweden.

Ending a brevet like the Sverigetempot with a ripping descent through golden, rolling hills was an exciting experience for our troop of heroes, only heightened by the falling sun and the feeling of having just completed 2100kms in 156 hours.

NEW: There’s also a mobile image uploaded for anyone wanting a mobile phone background each month. August’s image is from Sweden, featuring tall aspen trees and long shadows. Click here to download Augusts’s Mobile Wallpaper.

The Radavist 2016 Calendar: July

This is the seventh layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Sunset Chasing.” Shot with a Leica M240 and a 35mm Summicron in Santa Barbara, California.

Summer months bring the heat, forcing many cyclists to ride either early in the morning or late. In Southern California, I find myself taking on the latter, if only for the last fleeting moments of daylight… Yesterday in Santa Barbara with Stinner Frameworks was one of those days!

NEW: There’s also a mobile image uploaded for anyone wanting a mobile phone background each month. July’s image is from Japan and was one of my favorites from the Asuke Gourmet Century coverage. Click here to download July’s Mobile Wallpaper.

Apologies for the lack of June wallpaper. I left the InDesign file in Los Angeles and had no way of getting it in Japan.

This is the fourth layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Desert Layering.”

Saline Valley is a magical place, with long, swooping roads, washboarded corners and magical vistas around every corner. While the main attraction – a desert hotspring occupied by nudists in their mid to late 50’s and 60’s – might be a little weird for many desert weekend warriors, there are plenty of other au naturale sights on this road. Go there in the spring and early fall, for the summer months are a scorcher!

This is the third layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Super Bloom.”

This photo was shot in Death Valley during the recent wildflower bloom. Spring explosions like this happen once every 10 years in Death Valley and drastically alter the landscape, scattering blues, purples, whites and yellows across the valley’s often dry and arid basin.

This is the second layout of the Radavist 2016 Calendar, entitled “Dusted.” This photo was shot in Chile during the Santa Cruz Bicycles Rally Aysen. More coverage from this event is landing on the site this week.

I’m thankful for weather-sealed camera bodies and lenses, not only for water, but for moments like these when you just have to get lower to get the photo, resulting in a cooked corner and a wall of dust.

With a new year comes a slightly new calendar format. Enjoy!

Highway 2 at sunset is prime grounds for some #TeamDreamSunsetChasingTeam and believe it or not, this photo doesn’t even come close to the nuclear explosion that happens every day, from 2,000′ and up in LA.
