As we roll into the New Year and since we’re always trying to make this website a better place, so all y’all enjoy browsing its galleries, we wanted to ask you, the readers, what you’d like to see more of? I feel like every year, we ask this and this year, we tried to follow through on many of your concerns.

So please take a minute to chime in the comments with what you’d like to see more of? Be it Shop Visits with builders or bike shops, more affordable bike reviews, more daily riders bikes, rides, landscapes, reviews… anything. Please don’t feel coy, let us know so we can continue to make this site better!

After the New Year, we’ll be looking at the year in review posts and I can already tell it’s going to be the best yet!

The cat’s, err, the jackal‘s out of the bag. The Radavist is relocating to Los Angeles thanks to a few opportunities that presented themselves recently. It’s a big change, but a welcomed one and I think you’ll all agree, California has it going on.

Over the past week, Disqus – the comment platform used on the site – added a feature to all forums called Promoted Comments. Their reasoning was something along the lines of “Fortune 500 companies will pay to have their products advertised on your site.” Uh, not cool, guys. Personally, I see features like that on click-hole websites, not on a community like this.

Problem is, there was no “opt out” / “enable” button on the Disqus admin menu. So all forums were forced into this. Which sucks.

After a week of back and forth, mixed in with angry Tweets directed at Disqus, they claim to have disabled them for the Radavist. Hopefully this means they’re gone for good, because they were an eyesore and I apologize.

In the future, if you see any, screenshot them and post them up in the comments, please.

Thanks for your patience…

A new feature that’s now implemented on the site are the two navigation arrows in the “Featured” post header. You can now flip through a selection of the most recently Featured galleries. You can still swipe that header on any iOS device (you may need to reset your browser’s cache if it’s giving you trouble).

It’s the little things…

It’s a New Year and while you’re making your resolutions, remember you can always ride more. For 2013, I’ll be focusing more on what you want to see, just like in years past. Over on the PiNP Facebook, a good discussion is brewing about the site’s content and honestly, I agree with most of it. The new year is a great time to set goals and to reflect on the previous year. I always want the readers to have a voice in the content I provide here.

So far, all the feedback makes sense. PiNP has always been a cycling blog that has always posted about all forms of cycling. During cross season, there will always be more cyclocross videos and photos. Sometimes there will be a lull in fixed freestyle videos and photos, or track bike videos. But just because I haven’t posted about them for a day or two, doesn’t mean they’re falling off. I’ll never post a video for the sake of posting one. With only 10 posts on the front page, I have to be mindful of what’s presented on the site.

I’d also like to thank the advertisers. Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. I know ads are a sensitive subject, but most media survives on them. Look at magazines, or television. I pay for everything out of pocket and supporters of PiNP make that a possibility. I’ll never have pop-ups or annoying gifs, or anything that distracts you from the content. And unlike other sites, I do not take money to post videos or products. I always try to be fair to the readers.

This isn’t meant to be defensive, I just want to use this opportunity to say that I care about what you guys want to see. It’s my job! This year, I’ll continue to listen, so email, comment or submit. If you have thoughts, either hit up the Facebook thread or leave a comment below.

You might have caught onto a few of these already but I’ve been working hard with Jon Brennan to speed up and enhance the user experience of PiNP. A bunch of new additions were made today:

-Your keyboard arrow keys now navigate the photosets.
-You can now link to a specific photo (i.e. bro).
-Additional footer items.
-New web shop (I hear there are vinyl decals now).
-Faster loading on individual pages.
-Increased mobile compatibility with the Photosets.

We’re still working on some backend functionality to make the site load even faster for you. If there’s anything pressing we missed, leave a note in the comments.

Don’t fret, we’ve fixed the problem and it’ll be flushing itself from your cache shortly. I recently switched to a local web host here in Austin called WP Engine. Why? Because I wanted to support a local company and because they offer unlimited bandwidth. They base their service on visits and last month, PiNP exceeded the allotted visits by a couple hundred thousand.

We caught it early and covered the bases but unfortunately, some of you have a web cache that needs to be flushed. It’ll take a day, at most, maybe two but there’s nothing to worry about.

For those that were “banned”, we fixed that too. Hopefully this is the last hiccup from the site migration and WP Engine seems to be the best option for hosting PiNP.
