100-Mile Love Song: The 2023 Lost & Found Gravel Festival
After an almost-decade long run, the Lost & Found Gravel Festival continues to provide adventurous-minded riders with dynamic and challenging terrain in northern California’s Lost Sierra Mountains. Registration for any of the event’s 100-mile, 60-mile and 35-mile courses goes directly to supporting the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship‘s Lost Sierra Route, a route that seeks to connect 15 mountain communities and foster economic prosperity through recreation. Billy Sinkford joined in for the mixed terrain fun this year and shares moments from the race along with photos of the Builders’ Bazaar.

The Races Will Go On: No Date Changes in Store for the 2023 Downieville Classic or Lost and Found Gravel
It may still look like winter in the High Sierra, but the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has summer on the mind and is counting down the days until the Downieville Classic and the Lost and Found Gravel Festival, presented by Cervélo, one of the nonprofit’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Lost and Found will still take place on June 3 in Portola, despite the exceptionally snowy winter and late arrival of spring in the Lost Sierra…

the 2021 Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and Paul Component Engineering Sierra Trail Chasers Benefit SBTS and SORBA
It’s no secret that Pale Ale is Paul from Paul Component Engineering’s favorite beer, and this will be our 4th year collaborating on a custom bike for Sierra Nevada Brewery to show off at Sea Otter and give away to a lucky winner. This year we decided to raise the bar by building up TWO bikes, and using them to help out two of our favorite trail stewardship!

The Beloved Mount Hough Has Burned
With fires raging across the American West, one fire, in particular, the Dixie fire has taken a mountain we’ve spent a lot of time on. Our friends at the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship began cutting trails in preparation for the original Grinduro race which took place in 2015. It was a real achievement at the time, putting Quincy, California on the map for gravel, mountain biking, and even moto tourism. Mount Hough was the backdrop for a lot of memories over the years and it pains me to see the communities in the Lost Sierra (and everywhere, really) real with fires year-round.
This isn’t meant to be anything other than a note, extending some positive vibes out to the people who have been affected by the fires, the communities reeling from the reality, and to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.
We’re thinking about you all… see some of our memories in the Related archives below.

Yet, we got lucky enough to assemble this bling’ed masterpiece: a one-of-a-kind Hightower (size Large) decked out with parts you can’t even get your hands on these days. And if you want to come pick it up in-person*, you can receive complimentary lodging at The Lure Resort in Downieville, CA for the weekend. Come out and ride the Downieville Downhill on your brand-new bike!
We are building a legacy trail – the 300+ mile Lost Sierra Route – through our Connected Communities Project. Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship: A Trail for Everyone
The Lost Sierra felt like a second home to this site when we were based in California and that’s due to one thing: the draw of the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship‘s hard work (Don’t forget the giveaway we posted!) Currently, they are developing a Trails Master Plan for their Connected Communities plan. This extensive planning is aiding in the creation of a vision for a recreation-focused lifestyle. The SBTS are doing this through community investment, shared stewardship, economic opportunity, and important new local jobs, all benefiting economically disadvantaged communities in California’s Plumas, Sierra, Butte, and Lassen Counties…

PAUL x Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship Box Set Giveaway
Our friends at Paul Component are looking to help out the team at Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship through a wicked giveaway! Check out the press release below…
When we saw the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship announcement that all events for 2021 were canceled due to Covid, we were crushed. Anybody who’s been to the Downieville Classic, Mountains to Meadows, or Lost and Found knows we LOVE supporting these events with our aid stations, and partying with some of the best bike weirdos in the world, in one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
SBTS rely heavily on these events to help raise funds and awareness for all the amazing trails they build in the Lost Sierra, involving, employing, and assisting the local small communities in the process. It’s truly inspiring to behold the hard and meaningful work they put in, and a cause we will trumpet until we’re out of breath.
What can we do to help? Well, we’ve decided to offer up one of our few remaining Limited 30th Anniversary Box Sets as a prize to one lucky person, chosen at random, who donates to SBTS by March 14.
Consider donating the amount you would normally spend for entry fees and this will help keep the trails and community in good shape for 2022 when we’re all back out there shredding and partying together!
So how do you win?
-Head over to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship website and donate any amount you can afford.
-Forward the confirmation email you receive from SBTS to travis@paulcomp.com. That’s it! Paul will choose a winner at random after March 14th in some bizarre way, so stay tuned!

Drawn Out: a Semi-Casual Expedition Through the Lost Sierra
Tucked away in a sparsely populated region of Northern California, at the northern terminus of the Sierra Nevada range lies a land of dense, rolling forests, deep canyons, cold clear streams, and jagged peaks that tower over teal, post-glacial lakes. And weaving their way through this serenely beautiful landscape is a network of ever-growing trails, the vast majority of which can be traversed by bike.

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship Announces Mountains to Meadows and Gravelation in Quincy!
The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship knows how to throw races. There’s a reason we cover each and every one, year after year! The proof is in the puddin’. Every year, 1000+ racers show up for Lost & Found, even more for the Downieville Classic and with Grinduro leaving Quincy, the SBTS decided to up the ante and continue throwing a weekend event of racing and partying, dubbed Mountains to Meadows. The location is too good to not pick up where Grinduro left off. Mark your calendars for September 24-27, 2020 and read on below.

Grinduro Expands to Six Events Worldwide and a New California Location This Year
For 2020, Grinduro is continuing to expand throughout the globe, bringing the mixed-terrain event to California, as well as Wales, Switzerland, Japan, Quebec, and Australia. Its global support network brands, Giro, Fabric, Maxxis, and Rapha will team up with each event’s hosting brands, Cannondale, Canyon, Devinci, and Salsa.
Now, for the biggest change announcement. The inaugural event’s location of Quincy, California has been part of the weekend’s charm and this year, Grinduro will be leaving Quincy and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship for the Mt. Shasta area, where they will work with the Siskiyou Outdoor Alliance.
Keep in mind that while Grinduro might be a weekend of partying and racing, it also raises money for local trail organizations, totaling $500,000 for trail organizations backing the event.
As someone who has put in a ton of effort into this event over the years, I’m glad to see it expanding!
