Mission Workshop: The Ends – Video Trailer

Here’s a video trailer promoting a series of webisodes that Mission Workshop is working on with the Werehaus, showcasing our bike tour in China:

“Setting out from Shanghai, John Watson and Mission Workshop began their cycling tour of China’s Yangtze River Delta. Using both film and digital formats, Watson photographed the surroundings and encounters with the local community. Led by their friends from Factory Five, they headed into a frenetic network of massive residential complexes, large industrial parks, and super highways. At first glance, the route seemed straightforward, however, the reality of the 1,000km trip was far more intense than anyone expected.”

Keep on top of The Ends at Mission Workshop and please come to the opening party, let’s hang out!

SF Mark Your Calendars: Mission Workshop Presents “The Ends” A Photo Show

My trip to China with Mission Workshop and Factory 5 was amazing on so many levels. With so much stimuli, it’s still difficult for me to convey what it was like to ride a bike there but that’s where this photo show steps in. “The Ends” is more than a photo show, it’s a collection of moments captured while pedaling through some of the most unique landscapes I’ve ever been to.

On Saturday, June 15th, I’m displaying a selection of my film photos from my two weeks in China. There will be a run of softcover books, as well as a few prints of the above photo for sale. Come early, stay late. More details to follow…

June 15th 6-10pm

See ya there!

Mission Workshop

Reportage

Mission Workshop

A lot has changed for Mission Workshop since I first visited their retail space and design offices over three years ago. In that time, their bag range has doubled and their technical apparel line is growing just as fast. All of Mission Workshop’s bags are and have always been made in the USA, something few companies can claim these days. Most of their apparel is made in California, with a select number of jackets are made in Vancouver.

Balancing this growth isn’t always easy but it’s working. What began as a small nook off an alleyway in the Mission has quickly expanded to a lego-like composition of shipping containers and there’s no sign of the crew slowing down with the addition of their Acre clothing line on the horizon. Check out some narrated photos in the Gallery.

Marc and His Team Chica Sexy LOW MKII Track Bike

Reportage

Marc and His Team Chica Sexy LOW MKII Track Bike

Andrew Low has been working on a prototype track frame unlike any of his other bikes. These frames are simply put: team-edition racing machines. Some details are consistant with his other bikes, while others are not. Marc’s LOW is one of four in existence, being raced by Team Chica Sexy in SF. The geometry is true track, with steep angles, a short wheelbase and an aggressive saddle to bar drop. You can barely see the compact geometry in these photos but the top tube does indeed slope back.

Marc brought this bike out one of the last days I was in SF so I could shoot photos of it and from what I can tell over on the LOW Instagram, these are getting closer to production…

Download the high-res here

After a hefty processing and scanning bill, I finally have all of my 2013 ATOC photos. For me, one of the benefits of shooting from the hip with a 35mm camera is catching moments like this and not knowing how they’ll turn out. End of roll / end of road, coming down Mt. Diablo with Garrett, Jeremy and Julie. I’m just bummed the next exposure didn’t make the cut!

While I figure out what to do with all these photos, I’ll let you have the high res to do as you please. Click the link above.

SF Coffee Runs

I love riding in California and today was my first time riding in Golden Gate Park. I crashed with Chas last night and this morning, we headed out to Trouble coffee for some of their excellent coffee and toast. There’s nothing like the #lightbro in early SF mornings.

Wheel Talk: 2013 Red Bull Ride + Style

Matt Reyes and the Wheel Talk guys always provide the best in video coverage. Here’s their recap from the 2013 Red Bull Ride + Style:

“With the help of Zane Meyer and Omar Sebai I was able to chop together this highlight reel of the 2013 Red Bull Ride & Style. A lot of shit went down in San Francisco last weekend, and this is just a taste of it. I’ve been posting so much about this event that at this point I don’t even know what to say. I’m going to stop talking and let the video speak for itself. Enjoy.”

My Photo Show at the Rapha Cycle Club SF

This weekend kicks off the 2013 Amgen Tour of California and to get everyone in spirits for the event, I’m having a photo show at the Rapha Cycle Club SF. The show is being hung tomorrow (Saturday, May 11th) and will be up all week. Then, come Sunday, May 19th, we’re throwing an all-day “opening party” event.

So if you’re in SF next weekend, come down Sunday and say hi.

I’ll be covering the 2013 ATOC again this year, but a little differently, so stay tuned!
