Heavy Lifting: A Longterm Review of the Old Man Mountain Elkhorn Rack
The Old Man Mountain Elkhorn Rack solves a critical problem I’ve always had with my mountain bike. As far back as I can remember, owning a set of wheels translated into carrying stuff. A friend on the handlebars of my Sears BMX bike. A case of beer and groceries on the front rack of my old Vespa. An entire apartment in the back of my pickup truck. However, that functionality never existed for me in mountain biking.

Speaking of Thru-Axle Rack Mounts: Robert Axle Project’s Cargo Thru Axle
Riding a hardtail on a bicycle tour requires some problem solving, particularly if your bike doesn’t have rack mounts. Like the Specialized thru-axle we posted yesterday, which uses a Syntace thread pitch, the Rober Axle Project’s Cargo thru-axles solve this problem, yet RAP offers various thread pitches and axle widths. They also make various axles for hauling trailers. Head on over to Robert Axle Project to see more!

Robert Axle Project Owners Acquires Old Man Mountain Racks
The owners of Robert Axle Project have purchased made in the USA rack manufacturer, Old Man Mountain racks, yet the two companies will continue to operate separately from each other. The goal of this acquisition is to provide the highest quality products for cyclists who enjoy riding and touring on their bicycles. Old Man Mountain and Robert Axle Project have worked hand in hand before, by offering racks for full-suspension mountain bikes, relying on custom axles and rack support brackets under their Sherpa line. Robert Axle Project and McGovern Cycles’ Drive Thru Drivetrain Cleaner
Cleaning that mucky road grime from your drivetrain, or a muddy ‘cross chain, and even a dusted, sandpaper-like gravel bike derailleur can be a pain. This new product from Robert Axle Project makes that job even easier. The Drive Thru is a dummy hub that replaces your rear wheel to allow uninhibited access to the drivetrain and rear triangle for easy cleaning.
Chris McGovern first came up with the idea for the Drive Thru years ago, developed during his time professionally wrenching on UCI athletes’ bikes. The genius behind this product is that it retains the ability to shift, making cleaning inside your rear triangle, or degreasing your derailleur pulleys especially convenient.
The knurled axle stud head makes installation and removal easy, even with wet or greasy hands. The pulley wheel is captured by an o-ring on the axle, but can be easily removed to fit flat in a toolbox.
-Available in 3 thread pitches to fit almost any bike.
-Machined to the most precise standards in the industry.
-No tools required, simple one-hand installation.
-Weight: 62 grams.
-MSRP: $35
