The Radavist Product Awards and Top Ten Articles of 2023

While our favorite stories are always ride and event coverage, people love flocking to The Radavist for our opinion on products. We view ourselves as the bike industry’s press corps, offering nuanced takes on hot items each year, while pushing back ever so slightly on the long arm of the industry’s marketing. This year, we cracked a lot of hard nuts but walked away with some compelling products—some of which deserve extra recognition—all while deciphering the world of bikes we know and love, and penning opinion pieces that garnered lots of eyes throughout the past twelve months.

Let’s check out The Radavist Product Awards and our Top 10 Articles of 2023 below!

Deadfall, Cow Sh*t, and Monsoons: A Well Used Revelate Nano Panniers Review

In a world where traditional bicycle touring setups are seemingly overtaking strap-on bikepacking bags, micro or mini panniers make a lot of sense. If you have a rear or front rack, why not run a pannier over a lashed, structureless bag? Panniers are great for many reasons, mainly their ease of loading and stability. They don’t flop all over or rub your tires on smaller frames like bikepacking bags tend to, and if they’re packed and mounted right, they stay out of your way during the inevitable hike-a-bike. Plus, depending on how you load your rear rack, you can still use a dropper post.

John recently took the new Revelate Nano Panniers ($250/pair) out on the Northern New Mexico CDT for four days of navigating deadfall, battling cow shit, and being trounced by Southwestern Monsoons, i.e., the true test of a pannier’s reliability!

An In-Depth Review of Revelate Designs’ New Dyneema Infused Lineup

Revelate Designs’ Newest Dyneema Infused Lineup
Words and photography by Spencer Harding with additional words by Lael Wilcox

When I heard that Revelate Designs was planning to release some new bags featuring fancy Dyneema fabrics, I was drooling. For those in the back that remember that pedestrian activity called backpacking, which was my background before bikepacking, you will remember salivating over gram-saving Cuben Fiber everything! I hope our new Dyneema overlords can forgive the reference to the previous name of the fabric, I just get a little sentimental. If you are curious about the name change, you can check this article or fall down a rabbit hole of the many applications of Dyneema fibers here. The most important takeaway is this: Dyneema is the world’s strongest fiber with superior strength to weight ratio, and for a set of bags designed for the express purpose of achieving a FKT (fastest known time) on endurance mountain bike routes, every ounce counts.

Revelate Announces the Vole Dropper Post Saddle Pack

Revelate Announces the Vole Dropper Post Saddle Pack

Coming off the Terrapin System 8L, the newest bag from Revelate, the Vole, features a new independent saddle rail attachment and active cam locking buckle systems that give it excellent stability without external mounting hardware. To further stiffen and strengthen the bag, it also utilizes aluminum reinforcement components, composite internal stiffeners, and external plastic bottom sheets for load transfer and protection.

Eric Parsons from Revelate Designs adds: “The Vole was really pushed forward by our ambassadors Kurt Refsnider and Kaitlyn Boyle whose product testing and feedback after using the bag for ultra races were instrumental in its development. Additionally, as dropper posts have become standard on trail bikes I knew we needed to build a bag that would work well with modern bikes on technical trails without dumbing down components.”

To sweeten the deal, Revelate partnered with Wolf Tooth Components to supply the Valias dropper stanchion clamp to ensure your dropper post doesn’t malfunction after bag strap wear.

The 2-7L Vole will have an MSRP of $149.00 including the Valias clamp and is available in alpine
and black camo versions at RevelateDesigns.com.

Revelate Designs: The Wampack Winter Hydration Pack

Revelate’s newest product isn’t a bikepacking bag, it’s a solution for winter riding hydration. The Wampack is a low-profile hydro pack, meant to be worn under your layers during the colder months, although I don’t see why you couldn’t wear it year round as a normal, minimal hydro pack. Like all of Revelate’s products, the Wampack is made with care in Alaska, where they know a thing or two about cold temperatures. It retails for $95, so keep an eye out at your local Revelate dealer, or head to the Revelate blog to read up more about the Wampack.
