Rapha: Trade Team Jerseys and Caps

If you love your Rapha Classic Jersey but wish it had more color, these Trade Team Jerseys might be for you. Check out the full stock at Rapha and don’t forget to pick up the matching cap.

“Following up on the 5 Decades T-Shirt collection from last year…

1962 was the year that marked the return of trade teams to the Tour de France, to replace the previous national line ups. This trio of special edition Rapha jerseys celebrate the three teams and riders who topped the podium that year. The 49th edition of the Tour saw newcomer Raymond Poulidor of Mercier take the third step whilst Belgian Jozef Planckaert of Flandria narrowly lost out to Jacques Anquetil of the iconic St. Raphaël team.”

Looking great. Also, hey Ben!

Northside Wheelers

When FYXO moved out of the “hub”, Northside Wheelers moved in. Now nestled behind Shifter Bikes, Mal’s shop has expanded to almost three times the size of the old shop. He’s still stocking a lot of the same brands and even some new ones. In a shop like this, you spend a lot of time asking yourself “what’s for sale and what’s for show?” but that’s part of the charm. Check out some more selects in the Gallery!

The Rapha Women’s 100

Today is International Women’s Day and Rapha is throwing their #WOMENS100 on July 7th.  Here are the details:

The Rapha Women’s 100 – JULY 7th, 2013
We invite you to ride at least 100k with us this July 7th, 2013. This is the same day that the Etape du Tour is happening in France. Each year this event kicks off with some crazy participation number 0f 25,000 people riding the same route as the Tour de France. Unfortunately, the number of women who do this event is quite paltry. So, in an effort to get that number up, we have declared “l’attaque” (that’s French for “attack!”) on this day. Let us see how many women we can get riding on the day!

QUESTION?: Never ridden 100k before? Not a problem.
Over the next 16 weeks – roughly the time before July 7th – we will be providing tips, tricks and general guidelines to get you up and over your first 100k. We have lined up a good amount of bi-weekly (I can tell you this already that it is going to spill over to more than bi-weekly) content focused on getting you there. All brought to you by the fantastic women that we ride and interact with on a daily basis both here in Portland as well as some great celebrities in our little world of cycling (people like Gem Atkinson from Bianchista – who is the great rider and smiley woman in our Spring Summer catalog. You may notice that she likes to wear pearls. Which is awesome.)

There will be more about this in the coming weeks than you could ever imagine. As well, the San Francisco based Women’s Prestige on April 13th (which is full with 24 teams of women) will be a sounding board for what the Rapha Women’s 100 as we hope to inspire all of these ladies to join us in July.

How many women can we get to ride 100k on that day? 100? 1,000? 10,000? 100,000?

How to Follow Along?
How do you know if you’re doing it right? Well, you can’t do it wrong, that is for sure. The #WOMENS100 hashtag is going to be a great place to look to find some of the inspirational women who are helping us get there. Instagram and Twitter, go for it. Strava will also have a page completed by tomorrow to help show how many women have signed up on the day. Also, we have set up an Events tab on the Rapha Facebook Page to help you follow along.

Also, don’t miss out on the very impressive Rapha Women’s collection and the Festa Della Donna sale this season!

Beautiful in Brown: The Rapha Leather Town Gloves and Old Rip Van Winkle 10

Beautiful in Brown: The Rapha Leather Town Gloves and Old Rip Van Winkle 10

There are few things more beautiful in this world than fine leatherwork and a brand new bottle of straight Kentucky bourbon. When it comes to the latter, Old Rip Van Winkle is the most coveted and as for the leather, you can’t go wrong with the Rapha Leather Town Gloves. Both are coveted and will provide years of use if treated properly. This isn’t the first time I’ve highlighted cycling products with bourbon and it’s only the finest products that inspired the comparison.

The Rapha Leather Town gloves are exquisitely crafted from the finest Africa hair sheep. Now, I’ve never seen a hair sheep before but they apparently live in an hot and arid place, making their skin extremely tough but thin, perfect for gloves. As with all leather, you’ll want to care for them. When they get dirty or wet, clean them off and let them dry. Then, a simple wipe down with leather conditioner helps keep the leather supple.

Warmth is key in the winter months and no matter how nice gloves look, they have to keep you warm. I’ve found them to be perfect for 40 degrees and up, as is. For sub 40 degree weather, the Ibex merino wool liners keeps your extremities warm. Since it doesn’t get that cold too often in Texas, I’ve only had to wear the liners a couple of times.

And even for the coldest rides, coming home to a glass of Van Winkle 10 year is a sure way to warm you up. The aroma of a fine bourbon such as this will compliment the leather. Simple open the bottle to be greeted with a warm scent of caramel and charred oak wood. At 107 proof, it should be sipped neat, with no ice. If you prefer your bourbon cold, drink it outdoors. The Rapha Leather Town Gloves will keep your hands warm enough!

Baum Cycles Corretto Rapha Gazzet Paper for ACBS

Baum Cycles Corretto Rapha Gazzet Paper for ACBS

The Australian Custom Bicycle Show is this weekend in Australia and this bike is only one of the prime examples of Australian craftsmanship that will be on display. As part of the Rapha Continental Australia, Darren Baum worked closely with Rapha to design one of the wildest Baum Corretto paint jobs I’ve ever seen. Integrating the Rapha Gazzet Paper seamlessly into the wet coat creates a one-of-the-kind aesthetic.

The build? Pretty straight forward with full SRAM Red, ENVE clinchers, Fizik saddle and custom Busyman Bicycles bar tape to top it off. Check out more high-res photos of this beauty in the Gallery and if you’re in Australia, get your ass to the ACBS this weekend.
