It’s been a long couple of days on the road for the ATOC this year. Mostly filled with the riding to blogging ratio tipped towards saddle time. The trip has been very productive, while veering a little to the left of the norm. I didn’t find myself in a neutral support car, or scouring the crowds at the start of the race. Instead, we soaked up the riding that the various host cities had to offer.
Tomorrow morning (read: in 7 hours), I’ll be at the start of the 2013 ATOC in SF and then at the Rapha Cycle Club for my photo show all day. Swing by both to catch up!
This weekend kicks off the 2013 Amgen Tour of California and to get everyone in spirits for the event, I’m having a photo show at the Rapha Cycle Club SF. The show is being hung tomorrow (Saturday, May 11th) and will be up all week. Then, come Sunday, May 19th, we’re throwing an all-day “opening party” event.
So if you’re in SF next weekend, come down Sunday and say hi.
I’ll be covering the 2013 ATOC again this year, but a little differently, so stay tuned!
Here are the latest from Milliman! Watch as he profiles Team Blanco as they take on the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, as well as the ladies of Rabobank-Liv/Giant.
The guys at Manual for Speed have you covered (well, Cannondale covered) for ‘cross in 2013. I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Check out more at MFS 2.0.
Emily has a new gallery up on her site entitled “Cobbled Classics“. The photos should get you into the mood for some Flemish fun, especially with road season in full swing and the exhilarating finish of the 2013 Paris Roubaix.
Also, that looks like Chris Milliman‘s hands in the last photo. He’s shooting film? I’d like to see that Chris.
Speaking of the UCI track cycling worlds, British Cycling‘s Flickr has a bunch of great photos from the last day of training in Minsk. See the full set here.
CNN ran a piece online about Manual for Speed, the brainchild of Emiliano Granado and Daniel Wakefield Pasley. It’s not only great to see mainstream media covering cycling in a positive light, but this is great exposure for the dynamic duo of cycling photography. Check the piece out on CNN.
I was riding down a fairly busy road coming back from the post office one day when I saw this hanging on a utility box. It’ wasn’t the first one that I’ve seen and sure wasn’t the last. Easy target, huh?
Unfortunately, my bourbon-drinking ass didn’t make it to the 2013 UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Louisville this year. I know, I know. I should have gone but truth be told, I don’t think I would have survived the trip to my Distillery Mecca. Instead, I asked my good friend and past-contributor, Andrew Franciosa to submit a Guest Gallery showcasing the snowy mayhem. I still wish I could have attended the event but I’ll give my liver a break until NAHBS this month!
As a cyclist, living in Austin, people want to know what I think about the whole Lance Armstrong doping scandal. Just today, I was asked by three unrelated people on the street after I finished up a ride. “Well what do you have to say about Armstrong?”. It’s a tough question to answer. Austin is Lance’s home town and his name is just about everywhere you look. He’s done a lot for cycling here. But do I like him? No. Not at all.
If he were a good person, I’d feel bad for him. But he’s not. He’s a lying, arrogant, egomaniac who ruined the credibility of American cycling (and cycling in general) in order to push his career. So for that, I don’t like the man and I feel bad for his teammates that refused to dope, for being dragged into this whole scandal. His legacy is false and we all believed in him!
Side note: LiveStrong.org should be left out of this argument. Don’t confuse it with Livestrong.com. What I will say is that while Livestrong.org was founded by Lance, they’ve proven to be one of the best things to happen to cancer patients and for that, I’ll commend them. It was wise to ask him to step down. But the lines between .com and the .org tend to be blurry at times.
Now I’m sure people have mixed feelings about this whole scandal and his interview with Oprah but when will we hear the end of it?
I’ve made it half way through this and had to share it. Victoria Pendleton is the definition of a dedicated spokeswoman for cycling. Period. Professional cycling needs more of this and less of Oprah Winfrey. Thanks for sharing Tracko!
On Friday, Rapha launched their Team Sky 2013 collection online, shot by photographer Emily Maye. As someone who will always credit his inspiration, I have to say that these are some of the best Rapha product photos to date. See the full photoset here.
