50th Anniversary Paramount Track

Reportage

50th Anniversary Paramount Track

The customers and their bikes that walk in and out of Golden Saddle Cyclery amaze me. One minute, a custom Moots, the next, an Indy Fab cross bike. It never really gets old but you quickly adapt to seeing Beautiful Bicycles everywhere you look. Then a gem like this rolls into the doorway. A 50th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount track. These frames were made at the Waterford facilities in the late 80’s and it shows. The finely-crafted lugwork, anniversary logos and bright jade paint make this track frame one Beautiful Bicycle. I took it outside, in the last moments of sunlight and tried to capture all these details.

DJ’s Mash Histogram

Reportage

DJ’s Mash Histogram

Meeting viewers in person and seeing their bikes is one of my favorite things about traveling. This morning, DJ rolled into GSC on his Cinelli Mash Histogram and I tried to quickly sneak in photos before he noticed his bike was gone. It didn’t work because like a good owner, his eyes were on his bike the whole time. Who can blame him? Especially with the parts list…

Something for Everyone Next Week

I know it may not seem like it, but I’ve been out shooting photos all week in LA. Next week, I’ll start posting them up. Here’s a few selects, giving you an idea of what to expect…

Fyxomatosis: 2012 Melburn Roobaix Kit

The 2012 Melburn Roobaix is coming and like a great event organizer, Andy’s doing all he can to promote this event. All I’m going to say is, if you can make it, DO. Lauren had a blast last year and I’m sure you will too. Don’t be intimidated by Nic’s legs here. She’s not going to be able to attend this year… So you’ll still have a chance at winning the group ride.

That said, the Fyxomatosis Melburn Roobaix kits are now available. Swoop one up while they’re still hanging out.

Merckx Mondays

All photos by Andy White

Having just let go of my beauty last year (my Stuttgart Pista, not a girl), I know how hard it is to say goodbye. Andy’s had to make that decision recently, forcing him to sell his beautiful MX-Leader track bike. Like my Stuttgart, his MXL represented his brand and his shop, FYXO Hub. But that doesn’t mean when you sell it, you can’t take it out for one last photo shoot. And like a good friend, he sent these my way!

Check out more Fyxomatosis-submitted Merckx Mondays below!

Sean O’Donnell’s 2012 NACCC Photos

Photos by Sean O’Donnell

I get bummed out when I can’t make it to events like the NACCC but then seeing people’s photos almost makes me feel like I was there, minus all the booze and partying. Well, almost…

Check out the rest of Sean’s photos from the 2012 NACCC here! Seattle has the pleasure of hosting 2013 and congrats to Minneapolis for landing the hosting for the 2014 NACCC!

Josh’s LOW

Reportage

Josh’s LOW

After the 2011 NACCCs, Josh relocated to Austin from SF, where he worked at TCB Courier. Once settling in here in town, he took Andrew Low up on his offer for a track frame. Andrew went to town on this one with the finishing. This was the first frame that Andrew etched the owner’s name into the top tube. Other finishing notes include the TCB Courier logo etched in and Andrew’s signature on the non-drive chainstay.

Josh wanted this bike to ride fast and secure, so he went with some SRAM Omniums and a bullhorn on his cockpit. What better way to top off the build than with a Pentabike Muststash?

Another Day Another LOW

At this point, I’ve lost count of how many LOW‘s I’ve photographed. But at least this one is on entirely different turf. Josh’s LOW is the first one in Texas. Fancy that! More to come…

Cole’s Indy Fab Cross

Reportage

Cole’s Indy Fab Cross

I love the old Somerville-era Indy Fab bikes from the early 2000’s. When I walked past this beaut at the Golden Saddle Cyclery Champagne Brunch, I stopped in my tracks and immediately began to look it over. Who on Earth had such style? Turns out, it was Cole. Big surprise there. You’ll recognize this mustache’d face from a lot of the Rapha imagery and videos. I’ve spent some time hanging out with Cole but had never seen this steed.

After shooting a few photos of it leaned against a wall, I got Cole to take it out into the street for some 50mm lens love. Man, what a looker!

Jen and Her Moots Road

Reportage

Jen and Her Moots Road

Keeping with the ladies theme, here’s the lovely Jen and her gorgeous Moots Vamoots road. Jen was kind enough to let Jeremy, Simon and me crash at her place while we were in LA. She road to Baldy with us and managed to keep sane while we all partied it up. She’s a total badass and her bike ain’t too shabby either. As a side note, if you’re in LA and looking for that special something for your special someone, hit up her shop, Panty Raid in Los Feliz! Now, back to her and her bike…

Kyle’s 3Rensho Road

Reportage

Kyle’s 3Rensho Road

Mr. Save the Track Bike has quite a few nice geared bikes in his stable. As co-owner of Golden Saddle Cyclery, Kyle’s spent a lot of time pulling together a classic vibe for the shop. Sitting in the racks is this gorgeous 3Rensho road bike, built with Campy Ergo. When it comes to classic lines and Italian-influence, 3Rensho road bikes are some of the nicest vintage steeds available, which is why I was surprised to hear that he’s thinking of selling it…
