Hypebeast Follows Outlier

To the ITMA as they research textiles for their clothing. Outlier‘s one of those brands that we’ve been in love with since the beginning and it’s great seeing their company and apparel grow. If you’re a fan of seeing the process for selecting what products are made from, don’t miss this one!

Outlier: Runweight Shorts

Outlier: Runweight Shorts

One of the reasons why I love Outlier is they’re always looking to make their products better, or at least better-adapted to however you find yourself using them. Their new Runweight shorts are even lighter weight and have no seams at the crotch, making them virtually chaffing-free. Perfect for running, jogging, swimming, cycling, bass fishing and even just sitting on your ass, poolside.

Now if I can just figure out what Lars is running from!

My favorite piece in Outlier’s collection was photographed by Emiliano down in Mexico last month. The New Way Shorts are indeed, new and improved versions of previous Three Way Shorts models. $120, made in the USA and seriously, one of the best pieces for your spring and summer wardrobe. Outlier: The Black Minimal Backpack

Outlier: The Black Minimal Backpack

I love my first generation Minimal Backpack. As the name implies, it’s the simplest form of portage. A traditional dry sack design, rendered in Hyperlite Mountain Gear‘s proprietary material, nonwoven Dyneema. My only complaint with the first run was that it was white. It got dirty easily.

The new Outlier Minimal Backpack comes in black and still kicks ass. Check out more photos and pick one up at Outlier.

NYC Street Snaps 01

Without New York City, I wouldn’t be who I am today and quite possibly, this site wouldn’t even exist. The people here are like family and while I may be detached from their day to day lives, I still always roll through for a quick visit when I’m in town. Lauren and I arrived late Sunday, so yesterday was our first day in town.

I swung by a few spots in Brooklyn after my friend Harry and I took a morning spin around Central Park. Later, day turned into night and I turned to some of my old digs to meet up with some old friends. Beer, bros and bikes. Just like the Brooklyn I left three years ago.

Most of these photos are quick shots, or portraits but all came from the Sony RX100… Check out some narrated photos in the Gallery!

Outlier and Vans

This one came way out of left field but it looks great! Outlier and Vans collaborated on the Submarine Bedford sneaker:

“One of the dirty little secrets behind Outlier is just how committed we are to delivering value to our customers. We love working with the best materials (which are often very expensive) so it’s not always obvious, but we’re always pushing to deliver incredible quality at the best possible price. So when we got an opportunity to work with Vans on a shoe… well damn, not only did a lot of us grow up wearing Vans, but it was also a chance to make a great shoe at a really accessible price, so we didn’t hesitate.

Outlier meets Vans, the Supermarine Bedford. Water resistant Supermarine Cotton®, stainless steel hardware, pigskin cupped insoles, and of course a Vans OTW vulcanized waffle sole. $90. Available now.

Outlier Does Tie-Dye

Outlier Does Tie-Dye

I love the idea of a merino tie-dye tee and if I have faith that anyone can do it, it’s Outlier:

“It’s no secret that we think our pure 17.5 micron merino is a gem on its own and makes for the best damn t-shirt we’ve ever worn. So we took a little trip at the studio and hand tie-dyed a small batch of them using natural indigo to make the best damn tie-dyed shirt we’ve ever worn. Made in the Bay Area with New Zealand Fabric and hand-dyed at the Outlier Studio in Brooklyn. We hand-dyed a small batch of 30, and due to the nature of the process, each piece is unique.

A note about the dyeing process:

We took our Near White Ultrafine Merino T-Shirts, wrapped them up and immersed them in natural indigo dye. When the shirts are removed, the indigo oxidizes creating a permanent bond with the merino fibers. The shirts are then treated with a dye fixative, then washed with a special detergent to remove any extraneous particles and finally hung to dry in a sunny corner of our studio. Since they’re hand dyed, there will be variation in each of the patterns.”

Outlier: Grid Linen Towels

Outlier: Grid Linen Towels

It’s camping season and whether you’re a backpacker, a cyclist, or of the moto variety, keeping things lightweight and organized is key. These new Outlier Grid Linen Towels look to be ideal for a pannier, randonneur bag, jersey pocket or even your saddle rails! Be sure to read up below before you make a judgement on linen being used as a towel:

“All we really wanted was a damn good towel. On one side we found fat, fluffy cotton towels that were way too big to travel with and filled with sand at the beach. On the flip we found microfiber sport towels that were remarkably compact, but managed to hold odors in a way unbecoming of an object of any size. As is often the case we thought: there has got to be a better way.

As much as we love high tech fabrics, here at Outlier we start our searches in the history books. We found a surprising answer in the form of linen. Linen has the remarkable ability to absorb moisture while remaining dry to the touch. It is also one of nature’s strongest fibers; it gets softer and softer over time and when treated properly can be handed down through generations. We zeroed in on a box weave structure that maximizes the surface area of all the beautiful linen fibers while providing a subtle massaging handfeel. All this results in a towel that is bigger yet lighter, while absorbing moisture better and drying faster than cotton.

One of our favorite aspects of linen is how well it performs at the beach. It tosses off sand so you stay clean, and because it’s lighter and more compact it unfolds into a bigger beach blanket than you’d expect. Truth is, it makes for a better towel in a whole lot of places. It’s lightweight and quick drying enough to hike with (especially the medium size), and it feels so good on the skin that you’ll probably want to use it after your shower just about every day. Available in Medium, Large and X-Large sizes.”

Outlier for Women

Outlier for Women

For over 8 months now, Lauren has been loving her Outlier women’s shorts and I wish I had taken more photos of them while shooting her Icarus because they fit her like a glove! Here’s the scoop on the full Outlier women’s line:

“Why should better clothing just be made for the boys? It’s taken far too long, but we’ve been working extensively on our women’s clothing and we’ve finally got some more good stuff for you. We started by taking some of our favorite garments and rebuilt them from the ground up for women’s bodies using the same great fabrics found in our menswear, of course. So here’s four for the ladies; four new garments that we hope you’ll consider future classics.”

Outlier: The Ladies Slim Dungaree

Ever since I picked up a pair of Outlier pants for Lauren, she’s been in love with them. They fit her perfectly and now, there are more fit options from the Outlier team. Introducing the Ladies Slim Dungaree. As the name implies, these are tailored and slim, but will accompany many body types. Here’s more from Outlier:

“Don’t call them jeans. There’s no denim in here. No cotton to blowout after a month or two of cycling. No cotton to suck up sweat and rain and clam up your life for hours as it sort of dries. If Levi Strauss set out today, do you think he’d pick a fabric centuries old, or would he do what he did 160 years ago and find the toughest, most durable and most comfortable cloth around?

We set out to make a true five pocket pant for casual work and wear; a women’s version of our Slim Dungarees. It needed to be ready for our lifestyle. One pant we could wear everyday, all day. One that could handle the stress of daily cycling and would still look good even when covered in grime and paint.

Pants that stay dry in light rain, yet dry fast if they do get wet. Pants that shrug off coffee and beer. Pants that look and smell good even if you never wash them but can also get tossed in the washer without compromising their core style. Pants we can hike and sail in and then still walk into a restaurant looking sharp.

Five pocket design with brushed stainless steel rivets and a gusseted crotch. ”
