Mission Workshop: Hauser Hydration Backpack in Black MultiCam

The Hauser has been my go-to bikepacking, MTB riding and even commuter day pack since its inception. A highly versatile bag that’s both made in the USA and super comfortable just got more stylish (depending on how you feel about camo). The latest bag is made from black Multicam printed cordura. Multicam is a subtle print that looks even better splatted with mud… For those who always ask how I carry a camera on the bike, I use the 10L for DSLRs like the 5Dmkiii or rangefinders and the 14L for the Canon 1DX and two lenses.

Mission Workshop: Stahl Shorts Restocked

Gear is preferential, especially when it comes to shorts. Length matters, fit matters and when cycling is thrown into the equation, durability matters. These shorts have become my staple when it comes to camping, or bikepacking or even just jamming around on trails. They’ve taken hits, seen their share of swimming holes and they keep begging for more.

The Mission Workshop Stahl shorts have become one of my favorite “cycling apparel” products and they’re back in stock now, from a size 29 up to a 36 at Mission Workshop. I would size down one full size due to the nature of the fabric’s stretch. Four-way stretch means across the waist too!

Mission Workshop: Softshell Faroe Pullover

I know it’s easy to geek out about ever piece of tech apparel brands like Mission Workshop develop and eventually put to market. I say “eventually” because sometimes it takes a while to make sure it’s ready. Take this Softshell Faroe Pullover for example. I’ve been wearing one since January and it’s safe to say it’s almost all I wear when I’m riding in an environment that demands it. That ranges from sunny days in the New Zealand mountains, where I want to keep the sun off my arms and neck, or a misty mountain hop in the Angeles Crest. Even here in Austin, with our hit-or-miss rainy spring weather.

This one garment has been put through the ringer and it’s still kicking. It’s lightweight (220g) and is constructed using Swiss-made Schoeller®-Dryskin fabric with Nanosphere® water repellent treatment. Schoeller is like the titanium of the fabric industry. What can’t it do? Camping, mountain biking, road cycling, touring, bike packing, its applications are endless.

Check out more at Mission Workshop and yeah, it might not be for everyone, but believe me when I say it’s one of my favorite pieces ever made from the brand. I’ll be taking it with me to Banff this week!

Ask a Founder with Tom Ritchey at Mission Workshop

This Saturday, May 30th Tom Ritchey will be at Mission Workshop in SF for one of their Ask a Founder events. Here are the details:

“The Founders Event was created in effort to pull the curtain back and learn more about cycling brands that we respect. We as an industry tend to focus on the stunning finished parts but not as much on the struggle it takes to get there. For the event we simply turn the cameras on, step back and watch the story unfold. We cover the inspiration behind ideas, the projects that never got off the ground and everything in between.

For the third installment of the Mission Workshop Founders series we are honored to have Tom Ritchey on our stage to learn about the massively influential brand that shares his name. Ritchey’s love with all things two wheels started early. He built his first frame when he was just 16 years old and started his first company in his early twenties. The shape of cycling would arguably look very different without his involvement. Join us this Saturday May 30th at 7PM PST to watch Tom spin his tales live on Bikemag.com. Be part of the event by asking Tom a question via Twitter using “#AskRitchey” as the hashtag.

Live audience space is limited, if you can make it, email RSVP@missionworkshop.com for a seat.”

Mission Workshop Escapes to the North

With the northeast succumbing to Mother Nature’s frozen fingers this week, SF-based Mission Workshop drops this reminder on us, showcasing the beauty of the Norwegian coastline. Remember, no matter how cold it is where you are right now, there’s always somewhere colder!

“At the earliest sign of winter’s end, brothers Janne and Samu Amunét ventured towards the Arctic Circle. Constant travelers, they were eager to leave their home in Helsinki and explore the recently thawed Lofoten archipelago on the northern coast of Norway for their first road trip of the year. The twenty-four hour drive would take them through parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway still solidly frozen. However upon arriving on the coast the weather tempered. Usually a destination for summer trips, the idyllic village of Å was empty and quiet in a way only remote places can be.”

Mission Workshop’s New Storefront on Valencia

Reportage

Mission Workshop’s New Storefront on Valencia

San Francisco’s Mission Workshop has been on a steady climb of growth since their first bag was released. Originally on Rondel, an alleyway off of 16th street, they recently expanded their space to continue all the way onto Valencia street, a prominent shopping thoroughfare in the Mission.

The brand’s design aesthetics carry over through a palette of raw wood and steel, as well as stark white walls overlaid with vinyl appliqué and photography. Taking center stage is their high end Advanced Projects and fledgling brand ACRE.

I had the opportunity to photograph this space, prior to the brand’s opening party last Friday… If you have the chance to see it for yourself, swing by. If not, check out the Gallery!

Remi Hooded Blazer

Mission Workshop’s Advanced Projects line has continued to grow, most recently with two waterproof, tailored outerwear pieces: the Remi Hooded Blazer and Styrman Topcoat. Each of these pieces hold true to the AP line with fully taped seams, pockets and ported media pockets.

These two pieces are cut for movement, but hardly look like any cycling apparel the brand has launched thus far. More details are in the works with the official release coming in the near future.

Come check out these two pieces in person tonight, along with the new ACRE series apparel at the Mission Workshop store opening in SF and see more photos below.
