Save the NSC Velodrome!
Track racing is one of the most unique forms of cycling because it requires a special venue and when said venue is threatened, the sport itself takes the hit. The NSC Velodrome is the only velodrome in Minneapolis and right now, it needs our help.
If you’re in the area, there’s a fundraiser this weekend but you don’t have to live in Minneapolis to help support track cycling. Donate at the NSC Velodrome’s Go Fund Me page and help re-pave this beautiful track. If you’d like to some some truly wonderful photos of this velodrome, check out Kyle’s photos at Tracko.

The Road to the 2014 NACCC – John Daniel Reiss
The Road to the 2014 NACCC

The Road to NACCCs was not paved in gold. It was mostly laid out with cheap beer and great friends. For the 2014 North American Cycle Courier Championship organizers in Minneapolis and Chicago concocted an elaborate plan that spanned several hundred miles and two weekends. Starting with the Cuttin’ Crew Classic, an annual race that celebrates the local hustle of the Chicago messenger, many out-of-towners showed up for a piece of the action. Still hanging on to summer, we were blessed by the cool water of Lake Michigan and soaked by afternoon showers. My compatriots at TCB Courier and myself found ourselves taking it all in, from the beautiful stone buildings to cutty alleys, the city was a great motivator the challenges ahead.

The third and last segment of the All City Championships got off to a wet start. With isolated thunderstorms all morning, racers began to trickle in to the start at One On One.
After a quick briefing of the rules and some last minute instructions, racers ran to their bikes for the le mans start and started knocking out checkpoints from their manifest.
In the end it was David Smith and Chelsea Strate that took the win for men’s and women’s category, respectively.

The second installment of the All City Championships got started late in the day. 10pm meet up at One On One and a group ride to the start of the fixed gear crit. We (as a group) rolled up to a vacant events lot next to an overpass. It was incredibly dark with only a couple street lights and a big Budweiser billboard illuminating the race course…

The 2014 All City Championship Weekend: Bandit Cross

This was part one of three among the events for this year’s All City Championships.
At 6:30 pm racers gathered at a place called Hobo Camp in west Minneapolis.
Jeff Frane from All-City and his race team, Fulton Racing put together a great course ranging from a little mud section, spiraling pedestrian ramps, rail road track barriers, single track leading into a pump track section and a gnarly climb up. I’m calling it a climb up instead of a run up because racers literally had to climb up a mountain of dirt every lap!
At the end, Bandit Cross favorites Fulton racing took a podium sweep in both gender categories.

Parties. That’s what Minneapolis is all about come the summer months and I’m not talking about the “take over the bar with 20 of your friends and sing happy birthday” kind of celebration. What partying is, to me anyway, is grabbing a case of beer or a bottle, booking around town, hitting trails, sitting in a park and taking a dive in a body of water, nude, after the sun has gone down.
In the midwest, that’s the way of life come the Summer Solstice and in Minneapolis, the All City Championships mark the height of such activities…
