Last year, a section of Highway 1 was closed due to construction, meaning no cars were allowed. This prompted the guys at Mash to take to this scenic, yet often very busy stretch of road to ride on their track bikes.

Mash SF: Kosuke Masuda Track Bike
The work of Kosuke Masuda is mind-blowing. The Japanese artist engraves bicycle components with traditional Japanese-inspired designs from flowers to wind bands and waves. His latest work has just been showcased by Mash SF, who donned Kosuke’s work on a Cinelli track bike for photos. Head to Mash to see the full photoset.

Cinelli White Collar Work Bike
Golden Saddle Rides: Golden Saddle Rides: Cinelli White Collar Work Bike
Photos by Kyle Kelley, words by John Watson
While the success of the Cinelli and San Francisco-based brand Mash may lie in their Histogram and other aluminum frame collaborations, the Work frameset was the first frameset that really plucked a heart string with me. When a frame rolled its way through the doors of Golden Saddle Cyclery, it hit hard with co-owner Kyle Kelley, who insisted we feature it on the site.
What’s not to love about these machines? Raw, clear-coated steel with red-inlayed machining, options to run it as a fixed gear or SSCX bike (or a FGCX bike!) with canti brakes, internal routing and a nice, level top tube.
Cinelli and Mash have done a lot of great things over the years, but I’ll always remember this bike…

Cross Was Here: A Day in the life of Chelsea Weidinger – Jen Abercrombie
Cross Was Here: A Day in the life of Chelsea Weidinger
Photos and words by Jen Abercrombie
“I’d already set the goal in my head that I was going to be the first girl on MASH. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but it’s going to happen.” – Chelsea Weidinger
It’s January and everyone is thinking of resolutions and goals for the coming year. As cross season ended, I spent a day in San Francisco riding and talking with Chelsea Weidinger, of the MASH Cyclocross team, about how she got here and where she’s going. Chelsea hails from Columbus, Ohio. After stints working in a bank and a juice bar, she decided that coffee and bike racing were more her speed, and moved to San Francisco in 2012.

Mash SF: 10 Year Parallax Frame
This past weekend brought about a ten year anniversary for Mash and to commemorate this event, Garrett Chow’s newly-designed 10 Year Parallax Frame went up for pre-order. Inspired by “X”, the Roman Numeral for ten, this intricately detailed paint job is made from thousands of intersecting and overlapping lines in three dimensions. It’s by far the most complex paint design I’ve seen on a production frame.
Head over to Mash to read more and pre-order a 10 Year Parallax Frame.

The Mash and Cinelli Work Frames are Now Shipping
Whether you’re into messengering, street fixed gear races or even singlespeed cyclocross, the new Mash Work Frames will fit the bill. Born on the streets and trails of SF, the Work Frame’s versatility is its most shining asset. As Mash’s first steel frame with Cinelli, the Work Frames were born from Chas Christiansen’s idea to have one frame to rule them all. Rather than painting the frames, Mash went with a raw, with a clear powdercoat, which will most definately patina over time with heavy use. These frames are spaced at 100mm and 120mm, with clearances for a 35mm tire and an english threaded bottom bracket.
The Work Frames are in stock now at Mash for $875.

Mash and Phil Wood
Mash has collaborated with Phil Wood three times now and while the original high flange green hubs were very, very nice these battleship gray low flange models turned out exquisite. These bombproof hubs are 32 hole, fixed / fixed and would look great on a street or a race wheelset.

Mash SF: Chas on Battery Street
All I can think watching this (and after navigating the ever-increasing congested streets of SF last week) is… suckers! Chas steers no-handed with ease through a sea of sedentary car commuters who’d be better off riding bikes in the great city of SF. Nice one Mash!

Oakley’s Greg Lemond Ride in SF!
Last week in San Francisco, Oakley, Mash and Greg Lemond organized a group ride strictly via social media. We all posted about it, encouraging people from all cycling backgrounds to come along for a chill, no drop ride and crossed our fingers. Would 15 people show up? 20? No one was certain and all we knew was that we’d begin our little jaunt on Market Street at the Oakley store…

Rubber Side Up 11
Dylan Buffington from Mash took a bit of a spill during this year’s Red Hook Crit Brooklyn after a racer went down in front of him. Luckily for Dylan, the metal barricades cushioned the blow and his hand took a majority of the damage. He was rushed to the ER and stitched up before being sent home.
This was Dylan’s first ever Red Hook Crit and it left him eager to get back out there again. Racing brakeless track bikes in a criterium-format race is a true testament to bike control, race tactics and straight up luck. Sometimes you have the latter on your side, sometimes you don’t.
Glad you’re back on the bike and already ripping brother. See ya soon!

Mash SF: Dylan on California Street
Mash has been working on a few new projects and part of that is documenting track bikes being thrashed on the streets of SF. This shot of Dylan on California street is amazing. The lean, the composition and those tracks. If you’ve ever ridden down this particular strip of road in SF, you know how rad this is… Keep ripping, Dylan.
Stay tuned for more at Mash!
