This Simple Bottle Cage Hack Can Save You Time

A while back, I saw Ira Ryan from Breadwinner Cycles at a Cross Crusades race in Portland prepping his bike for his race. He had ridden to the event from his home so he had two cages and two bottles and with less than a quarter rotation of an allen key had removed his bottle cages and was ready for his race.

I review a lot of bikes and tend to put frame bags and bottle cages on and off my bikes that I’ll use for touring, so I adopted his trick. Check out the details below.

King Cage: New Side Load Cages

King Cage has long been a staple in cycling water bottle cages and it’s been a while since Ron and his team released a new cage. This Side Load cages allow you to install it for easier access in tight frame spacer. Be it a smaller frame or a full-suspension mountain bike. These are in stock now at King Cage and through your local dealer.

the 2021 Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and Paul Component Engineering Sierra Trail Chasers Benefit SBTS and SORBA

It’s no secret that Pale Ale is Paul from Paul Component Engineering’s favorite beer, and this will be our 4th year collaborating on a custom bike for Sierra Nevada Brewery to show off at Sea Otter and give away to a lucky winner. This year we decided to raise the bar by building up TWO bikes, and using them to help out two of our favorite trail stewardship!

Readers’ Rides: Matt’s Ol’ Gary Fish tASSaJARa

Matt bought this classic Fisher MTB frame for $50 with the hopes of having a good ’round towner. Like all bikes, it’s going through various iterations over the years, with what you’re seeing now being the most current and arguably the best. I guess it depends how the parts bin and jewelry box are lookin’ ya know?

The Radavist Authors’ Favorite Small Business Products: John Watson

John Watson picks up this series we began with Ryan Wilson during the pandemic. Consider this a shout out to our favorite small businesses in the cycling industry. Here are some of John’s personal picks.

Small businesses are the foundation of the outdoor industry and many have been seriously impacted by the pandemic over the last couple of months. While money is understandably tight for a significant portion of people, if you do have the means and are dreaming up your next bike trip or local ride, I wanted to offer up a few suggestions for gear that I believe is worthy of investing in from some of my favorite small businesses in the industry.

Wolf Tooth and King Cage: Gold Morse Cages

If there’s one thing that’s consistent across all my personal builds, it’s King Cage. I either have Wolf Tooth’s Morse cages or the original classics. For those looking for some extra bling, Wolf Tooth just made a limited batch of gold Morse Cages in titanium and stainless. They’re in stock now and ready to ship at Wolf Tooth!

Wolf Tooth and King Cage: the Morse Cage

I love seeing collaborations like this. Wolf Tooth components had an idea and could have probably sourced their own fabrication means themselves to make a cage like this, but instead, they reached out to King Cage, because that’s what King Cage does better than anyone. That idea is a cage with various mounting points, to make the best use out of your limited space. The result is something that adds practicality to a tried and true design. Hats off to all parties! So… I’ve seen these before, but never had a chance to pick up a set, or photograph them in action. Luckily, Ocean Air Cycles did both of those for us. Ron at King Cage makes these. They’re essentially a hose clamp with a bottle boss welded onto it, allowing you to ad bottle cages to virtually any area of your bike. Just make sure you wrap your frame or fork with a protective tape as shown. Head to your local King Cage dealer to scoop up a set!

King Cage Celebrates #MadeintheUSA with Free Shipping and Hardware

King Cage makes titanium bottle cages in Durango, Colorado. Ron’s one of my favorite personalities in the “industry” and I commend him taking a stance like this on his Instagram. I don’t know why anyone would buy a titanium bottle cage made in China when King Cage makes them in the USA for the same price.

To celebrate bad-ass made in the USA cages, Ron is offering a free water bottle, FREE made in the USA Paragon Machine Works hardware with his cages, along with free shipping in the month of December. Take advantage of this sale and celebrate made in the USA products.

They’ve done an amazing job, sourcing products that were made domestically.
