With fires raging across the American West, one fire, in particular, the Dixie fire has taken a mountain we’ve spent a lot of time on. Our friends at the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship began cutting trails in preparation for the original Grinduro race which took place in 2015. It was a real achievement at the time, putting Quincy, California on the map for gravel, mountain biking, and even moto tourism. Mount Hough was the backdrop for a lot of memories over the years and it pains me to see the communities in the Lost Sierra (and everywhere, really) real with fires year-round.

This isn’t meant to be anything other than a note, extending some positive vibes out to the people who have been affected by the fires, the communities reeling from the reality, and to the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship.

Grinduro just announced the “Great Grinduro Giveaway” campaign supporting the Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance. I think we can all say that we might as well cancel all bike racing in 2020. People need to STAY HOME, wear masks when they leave their house, and ride in small groups until this pandemic subsides. As the only media outlet to cover every single Grinduro California race, I’d say it’s safe to say we’re the official Grinduro coverage website! The proof is in the pudding. With that said, we’re stoked to announce that the 2020 registration for the Mt. Shasta event on September 12th is open tonight at 7pm PDT, with 210 registration spots saved for FTW (femme, trans, women) riders. We can’t wait to provide our exceptional coverage this year, yet again! Especially with this recent announcement. Read the entire press release below…

It feels very doom and gloomy these days and with good reason. All we can do is look forward and do our part to ensure this pandemic ends swiftly. With the spring and early summer calender events postponed or cancelled all together, Grinduro California is crossing its fingers that we’ll be back to status quo come September 12th. As such, they announced the official registration time to be Tuesday, May 12th at 7pm PST. That’s all you need to know at the moment, but we’ve attached the press-release below!

For 2020, Grinduro is continuing to expand throughout the globe, bringing the mixed-terrain event to California, as well as Wales, Switzerland, Japan, Quebec, and Australia. Its global support network brands, Giro, Fabric, Maxxis, and Rapha will team up with each event’s hosting brands, Cannondale, Canyon, Devinci, and Salsa.

Now, for the biggest change announcement. The inaugural event’s location of Quincy, California has been part of the weekend’s charm and this year, Grinduro will be leaving Quincy and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship for the Mt. Shasta area, where they will work with the Siskiyou Outdoor Alliance.

Keep in mind that while Grinduro might be a weekend of partying and racing, it also raises money for local trail organizations, totaling $500,000 for trail organizations backing the event.

As someone who has put in a ton of effort into this event over the years, I’m glad to see it expanding!
