Since the first documentation of this project was posted on this site, I’ve been very interested in seeing the AWOL Transcontinental Edition touring bike hit local dealers. It is one of the most unique tourers I’ve ever ridden. My Product Review of the bike was thorough and Erik’s suped up Peacock Nuke edition swept everyone up in awe. When I saw these frames from Ruckus, I kindly requested higher res files. This is so good. While I don’t have a whole lot of information, I’m sure if you go bug the dudes over here, they’ll explain the origins of the cloning process they used to bring these carbon beasts back to life.

The name Chumba has been around for some time in the mountain bike world. Back in the early 90’s, Chumba first began making frames in California. The company has since gotten a bit of a facelift and a new home base just outside of Austin, TX. With its California and Colorado heritage, the team at Chumba has started designing frames in Austin and fabricating them in Oregon.

At the 2014 Mellow Johnny’s Classic yesterday, I got to check out one of Chumba’s first prototype MTBs, in the 29+ platform. Along with Orange Seal, Chumba will be offering their bikes tubeless-ready, which means lighter wheels and overall build weight. Utilizing True Temper, Whisky Parts and Paragon hardware (not pictured), these bikes come in pounds lighter than other 29+ offerings on the market.

The final production run will use Ceracote, rather than powder, have new graphics, a stainless head badge and an oversized OX Plat downtube. Completes will be built with Race Face cranks and Thomson parts. MSRP on the frame will be around $1,200 – but that’s not finalized yet.

Being that Chumba is located outside Austin, I’ll be following up on their projects as events warrant. For now, their team is racing and riding these bikes on our local trails and putting in PR&D as needed.

All-City as a brand has grown so much over the years, largely due to the killer team working their asses off designing their bikes from the ground up.

For Frostbike this year, they unveiled three new disc cross models: the highly anticipated Reynolds 853 Macho King Disc, a Macho King Disc Limited Edition and a Nature Boy Disc. While the whole line is impressive, my favorite detail is the singlespeed dropout on the Nature Boy Disc…

The newest from offering from Victoire Cycles caught me off-guard. Introducing their new Columbus tubing MTB framesets:

“The first Victoire frames designed with a mountain biking use in mind are now available for order. After a long period of testing in our moutains and the purchase of some specific tools, we are now ready to produce MTB frames.

You can choose between three wheels sizes, 26′, 27.5′ and 29′. You can also configure your frame with a singlespeed or a multiple gear transmission. You can also choose your braking system (V-brakes or disc). All the Victoire frames are built with a mix of Columbus Zona or 29er tubes, Reynolds 853 DZB tubes being available as an upgrade.

Frames can be ordered alone or as a kit with headset and fork. The latter can be a handmade rigid one or any model of your choice. Complete bikes with your selection of components are also available.

Orders can be placed now, with a six weeks delivery time. Victoire MTB frames start at 1190 €.”

My buddies at Rouler Cycling in New Orleans just dropped this beaut of a cross bike, made by Seth Rosko in Brooklyn. Here’s a little background:

“When Seth Rosko and Wes McWhorter set out on their first collaborative bike design project, they wanted to create a machine that was equal parts beautiful and shreddable. Rather than opt for a elegant road bike or functional SS commuter, they went right for the throat with the Loup Garou Team CX Prototype.

What’s so “prototypical” about this bike? Well, primarily the concept. Based in New Orleans, Rouler is a relatively new cycling company. Over the last year they have focused on testing a variety of different business models and product offerings to make sure the brand is connecting deeply and relevantly with their customers and clients. The consistent thread running throughout is their commitment to design — be it great looking apparel, clever product parodies or popular event promotions.

The Loup Garou takes its name from a popular story in Louisiana folklore and marries that to the “legend of Roulandria”. It’s all realized in a murdered out 18 lb steel and carbon machine that will be tearing up the swamplocross courses of Delta States Grand Prix next CX season.:
