ENVE’s All Terrain Bicycle (ATB) Challenge!

ENVE just announced the first-ever ATB Challenge. Five challengers will be selected to participate in the ATB-themed reality TV Gameshow that will tackle a yet-to-be-announced course that’s being aptly named the World’s Most Challenging ATB Route. The chosen contestants will have a bike built to their specs, then be flown to a secret, rugged and remote location somewhere in the United States where they’ll be given the opportunity to complete the route. The episodic series will introduce the selected contestants, their story, bike setup, and finally, their day on the World’s most Challenging ATB Route.

On the popular show Alone, contestants choose the gear they believe will give them the best chance of outlasting the other participants when they can rely on nothing but their own survival instincts and the limited gear available. The ATB Challenge isn’t all that different, but rather than receiving fishing line or a saw, the participants will choose between 650b or 700c wheels, flat, riser, or drop bar, and gearing selections in order to create what they believe is the best All Terrain Bicycle to conquer the route. Big watts and a high Vo2 Max won’t be enough to find success on the route – choosing wisely with equipment and being ready for any course challenge that comes their way will more than level the playing field.

It’s that time of year again! The New Crust Bombora ENVE Build is Coming! – Crust Bikes

The current state of the world supply chain is messy. The bicycle industry, as you may know, is really feeling it. In the past year, we have seen a tidal wave of people dusting off their old 90’s mountain bikes, or going to their local bike shop to snag that 2021 model, and heading out into the world to see what this two-wheeled miracle has to offer. While it is exciting to see the surge in support towards the bicycle world, the industry frankly wasn’t exactly equipped for the demand that has become the new norm for the time being. This has component lead times reading in years as opposed to their usual months, shipping costs rising to astronomical amounts, and brands (especially smaller ones) attempting to carefully navigate these obstacles and adapt.

With the scrambled supply chain, it was unexpected and exciting for us at Crust to have the opportunity to team up with ENVE to work on making something special. Having already been big fans of ENVE’s Adventure Fork for its versatility and aesthetic, the idea of offering a Crust frame paired up with it started getting tossed around. Inspired by Hailey Moore (@hailey.m.moore) and her Bombora that she put a paint-matched carbon fork on, it seemed the match was already made. A few changes were made to the existing Bombora to accommodate the Adventure fork and freshen the frame up a bit. Once the design changes were made, the plans were signed off, and a long wait ensued.

ENVE’s Grodeo ride and Builder Round-Up Weekend is Set for June 25 and 26

Remember our coverage from the ENVE Builder Round-Up in 2019? Well, after a year-long hiatus, it’s back!

ENVE’s Grodeo ride and Builder Round-Up weekend is set for June 25 & 26. It kicks off on Friday at ENVE HQ with the Builder Round-Up and Open House (a mini-NAHBS of sorts) with more than 30 of the most renowned custom builders displaying their latest works of art. Meet the builders with live music, food, drink, and the chance to test your skills on ENVE’s Ogden Trackline Gravel TT.

The Grodeo ride on Saturday takes inspiration from some of the ENVE crew’s favorite gravel events, and travels the dirt roads and trails that the G Series gravel products were developed on. The Wasatch Mountains that cast their shadow on the town of Ogden are not for the faint of heart; the route will cover 92 miles and 8,500 feet of climbing with Strava-times sections along the way. Less race, more adventure ride, share the day with friends new and old.

Although the Builder Round-Up is open to everyone, the Grodeo ride is limited to 200 riders. The full course will be announced in June. Registration opens May 1st at 8 AM MST and is expected to sell out. Details and sign-up info here: https://www.enve.com/grodeo/

Curtis Inglis’ Titanium Retrotec with ENVE Foundation AG25 Gravel Wheels

Reportage

Curtis Inglis’ Titanium Retrotec with ENVE Foundation AG25 Gravel Wheels

I don’t know about you all but personally, I miss seeing off-the-wall crazy custom bikes at the various tradeshows. With the pandemic canceling the 2020 and most likely 2021 dates for various open houses and NAHBS, I’ve just accepted the fact that those balleur bicycle gallery shoots will have to wait. That said, when projects like this fall into my lap, I’m more than excited to take some extra time documenting them.

ENVE launched their Foundation Gravel wheels last week and in a perfect world, a press-camp was supposed to happen in Arizona to test out those wheels. ENVE planned on pinging various builders to fabricate the chassis for their full gravel lineup. One of those builders was Retrotec and Curtis went overboard for the event, building a handful of titanium frames alongside Oscar Camarena of Simple Bike Company. When the press camp wasn’t happening, Curtis decided he’d send this bike out for me to document. He needed photos for his website and I won’t say no to content like this…

The Moots Womble 29er: Long-Term Bike and Frame Review

The Moots Womble 29er: Long-Term Bike and Frame Review

Let’s just say I didn’t expect any less than greatness from Moots when it came to the Womble, the latest creation from their shop in Steamboat Springs. From previous experiences, I knew how well Moots’ titanium bikes rode and was looking forward to trying out their take on a modern 29er.

A few years back, I put the Baxter 29er through the wringer on the Steamboat to Fort Collins Ramble Ride, and during my project with SRAM in the Inyo Mountains, I pedaled it high up in the Mojave Desert and through Death Valley, across miles of washboard roads.

If I learned anything from those experiences it’s that titanium is the greatest frame material, especially when it’s wielded by the Masters of Metal. I’ve had the Womble 29er for a few months now, throughout the dusty ‘n’ dry end of summer, well into the snow-filled fall, and am finally ready to make my thoughts official, so read on below.

The Bikes of the 2020 Chris King ‘Not So’ Open House Part 02: Pursuit, Rock Lobster, Sage, Speedvagen, Sycip

With Covid-19 throwing a wrench in the spokes of the traditional tradeshow schedule, even open houses have had to switch to an online, or virtual, format. We saw this earlier in the year with ENVE and now, the 2020 Chris King Open House. While it wasn’t safe to travel to Portland to document the bikes, Chris King’s in-house photographer Jacob Olsen did a stellar job at documenting all ten bikes, while videography team Modify Content knocked out some great, in-depth video profiles of these handmade marvels. We’ve got part two today, featuring Pursuit, Rock Lobster, Sage, Speedvagen, and Sycip, so let’s jump right in…

The Most Colorful Bastion Cycles Ever? A Ti and Carbon Dream Bike from the ENVE Builder Round Up

This year’s ENVE Builder Round-Up featured two builds that didn’t make it through US Customs in time for the complete unveiling. Last weekend we looked at that beautiful Isen, a colorful build on its own, and this weekend, we’re featuring this lovely Bastion, a brand known for its ultra-high-tech frame construction by using 3D printed titanium lugs and beautifully woven carbon tubes. All made in-house in Victoria, Australia. Yes, this Bastion flew a long way to Ogden, Utah for the ENVE Builder Round-Up, but as you can see, it was worth it! See the full details below in an interview video with Bastion and a complete gallery within…

Last year, ENVE opened its doors to the public for an Open House event. This year the pandemic forced ENVE to pivot a bit, holding a virtual tour and framebuilder showcase they’re calling the Builder Round-Up. We’re pleased to once again host this showcase, with two-part coverage, so read on below for a full breakdown on these Beautiful Bicycles along with a few teasers of new ENVE product…
