Reach for the SKy

This would be an intense watch!

““Reach For The Sky” features unique behind the scenes looks at Zink’s dramatic 2013 and 2014 Red Bull Rampage campaigns in Virgin, Utah; plus a one-of-a-kind portrayal of his record-breaking 100-foot backflip attempt at Mammoth Mountain—showcasing 100% never-before-seen footage. The movie explores the fascinating life story of one of the sport’s most beloved and diverse athletes, but also delves into the multi-layered psychological elements regarding physical punishment, fame, and self-doubt, to uncover why Zink perseveres through the adversity—even when no one is watching.”

Digital downloads and Blu Ray / DVDs now available at Reach for the Sky.

Rapha: Davis Phinney Connie Carpenter-Phinney Jerseys and Documentary

“This film, produced by Rapha and Ben Ingham, is about two of America’s finest and most inspiring road racers, Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter-Phinney. For anyone who saw them race, Davis and Connie came to represent the best in American road racing, combining bold racing with uncompromising attitudes on and off the bike. Their careers saw them move from domination of domestic races to international and Olympic success…”

Half the Road: A Documentary About Professional Women’s Cycling

While America watches grown men wearing spandex slam into each other repetedly tonight (no, it’s not a Cat 5 road crit), I’m more stoked on hearing that the ASO announced there will be a women’s race at the 2014 Tour de France. Also, I thought it was coincidental that this documentary came across my radar last week…

Half the Road is a documentary that explores the world of women’s professional cycling and why there is a great deal of inequality in the sport. But it’s not a solely a call for action, it also features Kathryn Bertine’s quest to make the 2012 Olympics. You can read about it more here and donate here!

Courier Culture

Courier Culture

DC has a long-standing courier culture and this new short film explores just that:

“The bicycle messenger has been a fixture of the Washington DC landscape for decades. This mini-documentary explores a handful of the present day road warriors as they battle traffic and technology in pursuit of a fair wage and a freewheeling style of life. This is a preliminary cut, currently in post-production wrap up. Produced as part of the Corcoran School of Art + Design New Media Photojournalism Masters Program by Fixed Focus Productions. Fixed Focus is Maria Helena Carey, Dakota Fine, Reyna Levine, and Colby Waller. Thanks to Joel Gwadz for insight on cycling culture.”

Unstoppables

A few people forwarded this to me today and I didn’t have time to watch it until just now. Talk about a motivational video.

“This is the way we would like to introduce our characters! Our goal is to make a documentary following these “Unstoppables” in terms of training and participation in the next Paralympic Games London 2012.

Thomas Porter’s Splendid Cycles

Thomas Porter’s Splendid Cycles

I’m just going through some emails from the last few weeks and came across this gem. It’s a bit long but well worth the watch. Here’s a little background:

“Brooklyn resident William Thomas Porter builds wonderful – and really weird – bikes. “I wouldn’t call them mutants,” he says of his bike caricatures, “because that would make them sound ugly. It’s more like creating this… new splendid form.” We followed him around for a about a year documenting his projects and cajoling him into demonstrating the bikes’ awesomeness in a series of humorous, fast-paced vignettes.

Throughout the short Tom chats with good friend (and sometimes collaborator), Diego Guzman, about how and exactly why he does what he does.”

Swingbike freestyle is all the rage and the bounce bike sequences in McCarren Park are great!
