In this installment of The Dust-Up, Hailey Moore writes about the clichés of cycling fashion, the paradox of self-expression, why riding in cut-offs and flannel has perhaps jumped the shark, and the liberation found in embracing performance apparel. Read on for a thorough reflection on why we wear what we wear when we ride…

Of the British Isles Pt. 1: A Workshop Visit with Albion Cycling Apparel
Founded in 2016, Albion Cycling has dramatically expanded its apparel offerings in the past decade. And while the product line has grown, the UK-based company has stayed true to its fast-paced iterative roots and is now working closely with the technical fabric company, Pertex, in designing remarkably lightweight and packable products, for on and off the bike. Petor Georgallou pays a visit to Albion’s design HQ for a closer look…

Patagonia’s Better Than New Project
Com’on, admit it. You’ve got a few pieces of Patagonia in your wardrobe. My favorite is their down sweater. I never leave for a trip without it. That thing has saved me on more than one occasion over the years. Chances are, your clothing has hit a few snags after heavy use. Rather than tossing it in the trash, you choose to send it in for repair.
Patagonia’s repair facilities are in Reno, NV but now, there’s a new mobile repair truck. The Worn Wear truck is currently crossing the US to make on the spot repairs, sell used clothes and even teach you how to repair your own apparel.

Rouleur x Vélobici Combativity Merino Pullover
I wonder, does Santa ride bikes? Because if he does… These new Rouleur x Vélobici Combativity Merino sweaters look to be doing it right. Made in the UK, limited edition (but still in stock) and a great, classic color – sorry, colour – palette. The USD conversion gets a bit steep but if you’re in the UK and are looking for a new pullover, head over to Rouleur to see more.

The Levi’s Commuter Workspace in Los Angeles
The idea of “free” these days usually comes with a catch, yet when the Levi’s Commuter Workshops popped up in Brooklyn, LA and London, free really does mean free. A free desk to work at, free bike repair / wash areas, free coffee, free wifi and yes, free tailoring. So what’s the catch? No, really, there isn’t one.

SWRVE: Gore-Tex Belgian Cap
It’s funny how a ten-degree drop in temperature here in Austin has me scrambling to find my winter caps again. Little reminders, brought on my cold fronts, always alert me to the fact that the rest of the US is still very much in winter. While I’d only be able to wear the SWRVE Gore-Tex Belgian Cap once and a while here in Texas, I’m sure the rest of you would love to have one of these around your ears in the morning. Made in the USA and in an array of colors, pick one up here at SWRVE.

Day 02 of the Giro New Road Photo Shoot
We started our day at a reasonable hour and after breakfast, the team got an intro to Giro‘s new cycling apparel line, the New Road. I can’t say a whole lot about it but what I will say is this is far from “commuter wear” and a completely different approach to your typical road wear. The most appealing aspect of the line is that it’s all made in the USA.
Our day began leaving the ranch where we’re staying, down a gravel road and out, along the 128 to the 1. At mile 45, we stopped for lunch and to my surprise, had only climbed around 1,000’. Then, jokingly Mark said “oh, there’s a climb”, a Cat 2 trek awaited us off the 1 and it hurt but the 1,000′ descent in 3 miles was exhilarating. At mile 70, we tacked in around 5,000′. Once back at the ranch, we soaked in the waining sunlight, drank some beer and sat in the hot tub, ready to tackle another day on the bike…
Expect a little more riding photos tomorrow, as well as some more teaser shots of the New Road line.
