Wolf Tooth’s newest innovative product design is its CAMO system bashspider and chainrings. These bashspiders attach to the splined interface of MTB cranks and are paired with a CAMO chainring. This bash guard protects your chainring while maintaining an optimum chainline. Available for a number of crank spline interfaces and in stock now at Wolf Tooth.

The thing I love seeing is a modern road or ‘cross drivetrain with vintage-inspired or straight-up vintage silver cranks. If you’ve wanted to mix up your SRAM or Shimano built bike with something classier than the supplied cranks – which are designed to look good with carbon bikes, not steel frames, IMO – then check out this tidbit of information Jan from Rene Herse just announced.

In designing the Rene Herse chainrings, they anticipated the arrival of 12-speed, so the ramping design on these rings and the ring’s teeth width themselves have been engineered and now confirmed to work with 12-speed systems. I’m not talking “shift and it’ll eventually drop, ‘work'” I mean shift and it’ll smoothly engage.

I’ve been pestering Aaron from AARN for ages to make a 1x ‘cross chainring and he’s finally got a few ridable prototypes under a select group of people. Once a production run is underway, these new Sawblade Splatter Radavist edition rings will be in stock, so stay tuned…

Absolute Black makes a lot of claims on their website as to the advantages of their oval chainrings and while you might not buy into it, I know people who use them and swear by the technology. Shanghai’s Factory Five brings their Lattice chainring some color with a limited run of army green track rings. Available in 144bcd, 47t-49t, designed and proudly made locally in China. Not many companies can say that! See the full details at Factory Five.

For Cannondale Hollowgram owners wanting a direct mount road or cross narrow-wide chainring, Wolf Tooth Components has exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve been using SRAM’s own direct mount ring for a few weeks now and love it. While I’m all for the slick black aesthetic of their native design, it’s hard to deny the appeal of stainless. AARN’s 144#N track chainrings have returned in the AAMERICA anodizing, although this time, they’re black, silver, and gray. Each ring’s finish is hand-applied, meaning each part is unique, and is packaged in a limited edition letterpress printed envelope with a black to silver split-fountain logo fade. These ring are available in 47 and 49t options, with only 100 units in stock.

The AARN chainrings were an instant classic when they launched back in 2011. Each year, designer Aaron Panone restocks the 144#47/49 chainrings in limited batches. The first restock of 2015 is now on 44RN, in a run of 200. Head over now to pick one up.

With the development of the narrow wide chainring, more and more companies are beginning to roll out their own designs for MTB and cross bikes. The newest I’ve come across is Endless, out of Asheville, NC. They machine and anodize everything in the USA and while they currently only offer 104 BCD rings, they do come in an array of colors for 32t or 36t rings.
