One of my favorite small online shop owners that I’ve never met is Rob from Ocean Air Cycles. Recently, they collaborated with Swift Industries on a demi-porteur bag called the Docena. What is a demi-porteur bag? Read all about it at Ocean Air’s blog.

Brooklyn’s David Trimble has expanded his track bike criterium races into much more. The Red Hook Crit is a fully-branded machine at this point, collaborating with countless cycling companies. The latest being Timbuk2 and this Travel Backpack.

Scott at Porcelain Rocket has been working on this new modular saddle bag system for some time now. Dubbed Mr. Fusion, this harnessed bag system utilizes metal struts that either attach to your seat post, or post clamp.

I know this isn’t the first harness system out there, but I’m pretty stoked on how it turned out.

As both a “journalist” and a consumer, I get really excited when I see something new coming from a brand, especially one with a history like Blackburn. In recent months, I’ve gotten to know the brand a bit better, both through their Meet the Rangers program and from a product perspective. I’ve seen a few of their forthcoming products, many of which I think you’ll be stoked on but before those roll out, I thought you’d appreciate a little Q&A with the brand.

To give the readers of the Radavist some insight into Blackburn’s modus operandi, I reached out to brand manager, Robin Sansom for an interview.

I’ve been thinking that I wanted a backpack that’s just a bit smaller than my 22L Klettersack from Topo Designs and this morning, they announced their new Rover Pack. Made in Colorado at a LEED-certified facility and available in an array of colors.

Mash has teamed up with SF-local portage company Boreas on two models of backpacks, the Day Pack and the Race Pack. I’ve seen Boreas gear in person and it’s a solid option for those looking for more technical backpacks.

Chrome’s newest Artist series features Japanese artist NOA and a Yalta backpack.

“Typically using oil and acrylic paint on canvas or wood, he’s known for painting live with a style that emulates Japanese line-making. Each piece of art is influenced by the music he chooses to play as he paints, with most of his inspiration is deeply rooted in hip-hop and graffiti. NOA- created this artwork based on the Japanese phrase, “黒霧” that translates phonetically to Kuromu (sounds like Chrome!) and means Black Fog.

These one-of-a-kind Yalta bags come from a 4′ x 12′ canvas and acrylic painting NOA- made. Each of the 8 bags represents a specific segment of the painting where the Black Fog takes on a unique energy of its own. Our Artist Series is produced as a limited run. Once they are gone, they’re gone.”

I love seeing two friends come together from opposite ends of the cycling industry to make something rad. Ben from Argonaut and Garret from Strawfoot designed a waxed canvas saddle bag together. It’s a limited run, with only 50 available. Each bag is made by hand in Santa Cruz and stamped with the Argonaut “A” logo on the strap. It’s meant to carry a spare tube, tire levers, a multi-tool and a patch kit.
