Porcelain Rocket’s DSLR Slingers
Scott from Porcelain Rocket launched a small run of DSLR Slingers on his site yesterday. These on-the-go camera bags allow you to drop in a mid-sized DSLR, rangefinder or Micro 4/3s camera, and simply pull them out to get the shot. There’s no need to stop and open a backpack or a handlebar bag.
While they’re not big enough for a pro DSLR with a battery grip, they fit a 5Dmkiii and a smallish lens. I fit a 5Dmkiii in mine with a 24-70 mkii lens but it felt a lot better on the bike with my Mamiya 7ii, Leica M7 or my little Fuji x100t. Remember, you’re putting weight on one side of the bike and they tend to hit your knees while climbing, so the smaller the camera, the better in my opinion.
The DSLR Slingers are in stock now at Porcelain Rocket for $150.

I’m Digging the Boreas Aperture Photo Backpack
… and I totally blanked on sharing this before the Kickstarter deadline finished up. Boreas’ backpacks all use a native harness system, dubbed the suspension and part of the Bootlegger Modular Pack system. The Aperture Photo Series is built on this design.
The idea is you can swap different pack bodies depending on your needs. Kayaking, surfing, packrafting, cycling, hiking or even commuting, each pack can be dropped into or removed from the suspension straps with ease.
Since the funding is already finished up on the Aperture pack, we’ll have to wait until May to see these hit the consumer market.
Check out more on the Aperture pack, including diagrams and plenty of product photos at the Kickstarter page.

All Hail the Black Market for Swobo: Hobo Pack
Stevil’s a really great guy and his work with All Hail the Black Market over the years always provides entertainment. His newest collaboration with longtime brand ally Swobo looks great, which is probably why it sold out so quickly.
The Hobo Pack is a no-nonsense hydration pack for cycling and by hydration, I mean a vessel for transporting beer to races, or to drink on a ride. Of course it has fittings for a hydration bladder too, as well as a helmet net and rain fly. Functionality can’t be forgotten with a pack!
Even though these are sold out, more are on the way, head over to Swobo to sign up for an email notification.

Porcelain Rocket’s New MCA Handlebar Bag and Micro Panniers
Porcelain Rocket’s line of bikepacking and touring bags continues to grow and improve upon itself. Replacing the Mission Control bar bag comes the MCA, which utilizes a front-loading 5-15L dry sack, rather than the old side-loading bag. Also new to the lineup are the Micro Panniers. Intended for rear-racks only, these bags are perfect for commuting or when you need just a little more room for those longer expeditions.
Both are now available for ordering at Porcelain Rocket.

Ride Along: Yanco from Yanco Bags
In the ground level of a beautiful home in Los Angeles, Javiar Yanco makes bags, caps and other accessories used by cyclists of every kind. From randonneurs, to bikepackers, road cyclists, MTB racers and cross bike explorers, Yanco’s bags have a cult-like following. One product in particular, the Ramblin Roll, sold by Tracko, literally launched him into full-time production recently.
But his work doesn’t stop there. From packraft bags, musettes, bar bags, bikepacking bags, caps and yes, still a few top tube pads, Yanco makes products that he’s inspired to make slightly different than the rest.
Through using bright colors, unique zippers and yes, camo, lots of camo, these bags will always fetch the comment on Instagram: “what kind of bag is that?…”
I caught up with Yanco last week in Los Angeles, as he was in the zone making Ramblin Rolls, and asked him a few questions for a Ride Along.
Check that out below!

Review: Blackburn’s Barrier Universal Panniers
Products that are designed to work within a system, but also operate just fine on their own are crucial to a brand. What if I don’t want to use your company’s rack? No problem. Blackburn’s Barrier Panniers are meant to be integrated into their Interlock racks – a system that allows you to lock your panniers for security while running errands around town – yet they work with any rack, even low-riders.
I recently gave these Barrier Universal panniers a go on a three day bicycle camping tour and loved them. Check out more below.
