“We felt it apropos to circle back to last year’s finale with yet another bike featuring Zio Ziegler’s patina, this time a bit more dirt-oriented. This is Zio’s personal Open UP, a bike that since its introduction at AC six months ago has been a consistent favorite, both amongst us and our clients. Usually offered in only two colors, orange and brown, we’ve been more recently asking for UPs in a raw, unpainted carbon finish, giving us the latitude to lend an Above Category flair to an otherwise stock carbon frameset.”

This one’s killing me right now. I love bikes where no matter how much you look at them, something new appears in the finishing every time. Take for instance this Baum, painted by artist Zio Ziegler, recently built by Above Category and featured on their Twelve Days of Breathtaking Builds. Dario Pegoretti is a true artist. A builder who’s known for his elaborate paintings as much as he’s regarded for his frame design and construction. His work evokes varied reactions spanning from awe to confusion and yet, there’s a beauty in each brush stroke.

The guys at Above Category have kidnapped the Manual for Speed Argonaut, aka Space Panda. They’re holding it in captivity for a while, so all of their customers can see it in person. This came out so nice! As I announced earlier, Above Category in Sausalito has picked up Argonaut Cycles, to give customers better access to the brand. The shop will assist in ordering one of these unique custom frames, by walking the consumer through the step by step process.

To celebrate this partnership, Argonaut and Above Category brought Brian Vernor out to make a short video showcasing the brands and their dedication to the custom market.

Watching Argonaut Cycles grow and gain traction in this market is exciting. Especially within the realm of retail, a world that most framebuilders decide to avoid due to margins. But sometimes, you find a home where your brand easily nestles in between the existing offerings.
