Japan’s Sim Works makes some of the raddest components out there and boy, do they know how to pick a great framebuilder to work with! Rick Hunter has been conspiring with the Japanese company and there are some really dialed products coming in the near future. For now, we have to make due with these great photos of Rick and his Wood Rat 27.5 hardtail.

I hate, hate, hate that I miss events like this but I love, love, love it when friends send over photos like this. While I couldn’t attend the Bike Builders, Beer and Bourbon event with Stinner Frameworks at Mission Workshop, Evan’s photos make me feel like I was there – minus the heckling.

Check out this charity Mosaic is throwing for the National Inclusion Project:
Mosaic Cycles is teaming up with Shimano, Fox Racing Shocks, fi’zi:k, Continental Bicycle Tires, Crank Brothers, and Lizard Skins to create a 27.5” wheel mountain bike that will benefit The National Inclusion Project. The Bike will be on display at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Charlotte North Carolina March 14th with the show through the The Pro’s Closet. 100% of the proceeds raised will go to The National Inclusion Project an organization that was founded in 2003 with the mission of working with and supporting groups across the country that open doors for ALL children to learn, live, and play together.
The idea for a charity bike came about soon after NAHBS 2013. “While working for fi’zi:k I frequently visited Aaron Barcheck and Kevin Batchelor at Mosaic and the thought of making a bike for a charity came up in conversation and they were 100% behind the idea.” Said Joe Anderson. “When I mentioned my son had recently been diagnosed with Autism we decided to select a beneficiary that assisted children with disabilities all over the country, The National Inclusion Project fit the bill.” Anderson continued “Every company I contacted about contributing to this project said yes without hesitation, all the parts, time, and labor were donated.”

FOES‘ newest revamp to their line actually dropped back at Interbike this year and by dropped, I mean a few pounds. While keeping to their monocoque aluminum construction, Brent engineered a new, lighter tubeset and reshaped the rear swingarm, shaving almost a whole pound off the rear alone.
This 27.5 Shaver FXC is a cross country racer’s dream bike. Coming in around 23lbs complete, laced with SRAM’s XX1 group, Fox Float CTD shock in the rear and the trusty Rock Shox front fork, this 4.5″ to 5″ travel bike has adjustability built in at the rear shock. Sliding the bolt down the gusset at the linkage can change the front end.
I’ve ridden a fair amount of modern mountain bikes and I can say, this is one of the first 27.5 machines I was visibly salivating over. How can you go wrong with that color? Retail will be around $2,400 for the frameset… Expect these to drop later this spring. For now, see more in the Gallery!
