Morning Coffee with Robo Cog Cafe in Sydney

Finding good coffee and food while traveling is a higher priority of mine than finding a good bike shop. When I flew into Sydney last month, our good friend / tour guide Yogi took us to Robo Cog in Surry Hills. A cafe owned by cyclists? Sure! Count me in. 20 minutes later and we were hooked. The interiors, food and coffee were all top notch.

FBM: A Giant Cup of Coffee

Just read the copy in this flier and your mind will be blow. The world’s first ramp stunt over the world’s largest cup of coffee. Or something like that. FBM clearly went nuts this winter! I wish I could be there.

Melbourne Means Cars and Coffee

Melbourne Means Cars and Coffee

We’ve been back in Melbourne for a few days now and it wasn’t until yesterday that I actually got to walk around and absorb the context. Like Sydney, Melbourne is heavy into vintage cars and good coffee. Long blacks and Holdens. Check out more at my Flickr.

Morning Coffee with Handsome

While I was in LA, Kyle took me over to the new Handsome Coffee spot in Downtown LA. I’ve been keen on the Handsome espresso since moving to Austin because Frank carries it. The people at Handsome recently acquired a sprawling, 3,000 square foot warehouse space where they will house their roasters, shipping and a cafe. Once they open, I’ll post more updates but for now, there are a few more photos at my Flickr.

Damien’s work is getting a lot of love as of late and I’m glad that I got to meet him at NACCCs this year and follow him on Flickr because he gets it. I love this shot. Even though I’d rather see this parked outside Heart!

;-)

I do love this quote though:

“”Stumptown? I don’t go there. There’s always a bunch of bike messengers hanging out there.”
— a passerby this morning at Fresh Pot 3(they serve Stumptown as well)”

Casa Brasil Coffee: Delivered by Bike in Austin Texas

It’s funny how circles overlap here in Austin. Maybe it’s because it’s a smaller town and when you bring bike-minded people together, their paths are bound to cross again? Who knows but I met Matt from Casa Brasil a few months back and I had no idea he had a coffee delivery service until last week. Serving multiple vendors in town, Casa Brasil delivers their orders via a trailer on the back of a Surly Crosscheck.

Post-Ride Coffee: Genovese and Ben’s Columbus MAX Peter Bundy Track

Ben has exquisite taste when it comes to coffee and bikes. We’ve already seen his neon Mazza track but we’ve yet to see where he works. BT runs the barista training facility at Genovese roasters here in Melbourne. There he hold seminars, teaching the city’s newest baristas how to pull a mean shot. When I showed up to shoot his bikes, he gave me a tour of their facility and let me shoot his unique, triple triangle, Columbus MAX Peter Bundy Track.

Check out photos of both below!

Post-Ride Coffee: Liaison Cafè

So we’ve already heard the mantra that some Aussies live by here in Melbourne: “life’s too short to ride shit bikes”. The same can be said about coffee. With the cafe scene booming in the CBD and surrounding areas, it’s comforting to know that when you sit down at Liaison Cafe, over 20 years of experience in coffee goes into your cup. Danny and his lovely lady Siany greet each customer like they’re family. At this quaint coffee shop in a tiny alley off Lt. Collins, a few surprises await you.

Being Frank with Matty B on Coffee and Bikes

Bikes and coffee. Coffee and bikes. There is quite the history of the two in cycling. Merckx rode for a coffee company and in just about any photo editorial piece on racing, you’ll see espresso cups laying around. But from Faema E61’s and road cycling to BMX? How’d that happen? Well, in Austin, Texas there’s a restaurant called Frank. Their motto is “hot dogs, cold beer” and I always wondered why they neglected to point out their excellent coffee bar. Matty B is the barista who manages the bar and he’s an avid BMXr (and used to FGFS – thanks Dan). He’s also adament about serving Intelligentsia-brand coffee. This brings in coffee and cyclist fanatics from all over the world who crave those beans.

Coffee Collective and Pi Bjoerg for the Bicycle Film Festival

Cycling and coffee goes hand in hand. It’s our fuel, the energy we get from our morning brew helps us truck into our day jobs or keeps us pedaling all day. It only makes sense that the Bicycle Film Festival would team up with Coffee Collective and Pi Bjoerg for their commemorative mugs. Here’s the press-release:

The Bicycle Film Festival premieres for the first time in Copenhagen 17.-19.
September 2010. We love bikes and we love coffee. Thus we have teamed up
with one of the most innovative coffee houses, the international renowned
Coffee Collective around a very limited run of 30 coffee cups designed by one of
Copenhagen’s finest ceramic artists Pi Bjørg.

These will move fast. Get yours at The Coffee Collective, Jægersborgsgade 10,
2200 Copenhagen, Denmark.

I hope the NYC office is getting some in!
