Canyon’s Grand Canyon 7 is a $1,299.00 Hardtail

Canyon’s most popular hardtail in the European market has finally made it to the USA. The Grand Canyon 7 is an aluminum chassis hardtail, built with a SRAM kit, a RockShox Judy Silver 120mm fork, and comes in either turquoise or black. With a 67.5º head angle and a 74º seat angle, it’s by no means a hyper-progressive geometry but it is a great all-rounder, in an affordable package. Check out more info at Canyon.

Vintage Bicycles: #29 Cunningham – A 1983 Tribute to Jacquie Phelan’s “Otto” Bike

Vintage Bicycles: #29 Cunningham – A 1983 Tribute to Jacquie Phelan’s “Otto” Bike

“Gravel bikes are just XC bikes from the 80s/90s with drop bars.” You hear that over and over again, ad infinitum on the internet. While that might be true to some degree, I think this statement does XC bikes from the 80s/90s a disservice. Back when the big companies were slow to pivot towards innovation, smaller builders were the ones tinkering in their shops, fabricating step-up cassettes, designing bikes with boost spacing, 1x drivetrains, quick-release seatpost collars, and more. It took people like Charlie Cunningham and Jacquie Phelan to really push the paradigm until it broke.

Take, for example, this tribute of Jacquie’s 1983 “Otto” Cunningham, which was built in June of 1983 for a customer in Marin…

DIYDK: Colorado to Kansas with Alex Howes

I’ve always looked out to the east, where the Earth’s curvature is pronounced, and wondered. Living at the base of the Rocky Mountains, in Boulder, Colorado, sometimes feels like being at the edge of a vast ocean. Well, at one point in geological history, it was, but now Eastern Colorado is a sea of grass. I wanted to see what was out there.

With little warning or time to prepare, I stumbled upon an opportunity to immerse myself in that unknown swath of plains. I had a chance to ride my bike to Kansas.

My friend Alex Howes posted something coy about the route on Instagram. “Plotting a long bomb,” he wrote in the caption. I texted to ask if he was really doing what I thought he was doing. He was. I asked what I meant to be a leading question: “You doing it alone?” His reply: “That’s the plan for now.” Then, “Want to come swap turns for 12hrs?”

I had about four days to get ready. I was in, 100%.

Taylor Phinney Hand Painted Silca SuperPista Ultimate Pump

Silca, Taylor Phinney and the Pro’s Closet are raising money for the Davis Phinney foundation by auctioning off this custom, hand-painted SuperPista floor pump. Taylor himself did the artwork while at the UCI Worlds in Richmond this year. The auction is already up there, but with all proceeds going to the Davis Phinney Foundation and this being a one-of-one, I bet the price gets even higher.

I also wanted to say how stoked I am this project came together.

Mosaic Cycles Charity 27.5 MTB for The National Inclusion Project

Check out this charity Mosaic is throwing for the National Inclusion Project:

Mosaic Cycles is teaming up with Shimano, Fox Racing Shocks, fi’zi:k, Continental Bicycle Tires, Crank Brothers, and Lizard Skins to create a 27.5” wheel mountain bike that will benefit The National Inclusion Project. The Bike will be on display at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Charlotte North Carolina March 14th with the show through the The Pro’s Closet. 100% of the proceeds raised will go to The National Inclusion Project an organization that was founded in 2003 with the mission of working with and supporting groups across the country that open doors for ALL children to learn, live, and play together.

The idea for a charity bike came about soon after NAHBS 2013. “While working for fi’zi:k I frequently visited Aaron Barcheck and Kevin Batchelor at Mosaic and the thought of making a bike for a charity came up in conversation and they were 100% behind the idea.” Said Joe Anderson. “When I mentioned my son had recently been diagnosed with Autism we decided to select a beneficiary that assisted children with disabilities all over the country, The National Inclusion Project fit the bill.” Anderson continued “Every company I contacted about contributing to this project said yes without hesitation, all the parts, time, and labor were donated.”

Bid on this bike over at the Pro’s Closet eBay store.
