Nothing compares to the ride quality of a steel full suspension. Believe us when we say that! Jakub builds bikes as a hobby, under the handle Switch Craft Cycles and for this week’s Readers’ Rides, we’re featuring his self-made steel full suspension bike, all the way from the Czech Republic. Check out the full build details below, with words by Jakub…
I am just a hobby builder from the Czech Republic who dreamed about building myself a proper full suspension bike that could take rough riding.
I spent a year designing it and three months of building it. I am really happy how it turned out.
I have built four hardtail frames so far and this is my fifth mountain bike. Its made from high-grade Chromoly steel. I tried to keep the geometry modern with 66° head tube, 76° seat tube, 482mm Reach, 654mm Stack, 433mm chainstays and 40mm BB drop.
I came to MTB from 10 years of riding BMX so the main priority was simplicity and durability. I decided to run single-pivot suspension for its simplicity and tried to make it as durable as possible by putting the main pivot on oversized 41mm bearings and 24mm axle. It has 140mm of travel up front and 130mm down back.
1×12 SLX drive train and 4 piston SLX brakes. I am surprised how good this bike is riding.
