This week’s Readers’ Rides comes all the way from Singapore. Acit’s Stooge Scrambler is super dreamy and he’s done a great job documenting it, so let’s just right in!
Salam! I’m Acit (@kang_acit) from Singapore. A creative worker at @peonfx small independent adventure and cycling-related company. Here’s sharing a bike I built up for the initial purpose to go on the Torino-Nice Rally 2020 @torinonicerally. Then Covid happens, travel restrictions kicked in while I’m still confined here on this small island. Once the pandemic dissolves, definitely taking the Scrambler on wild adventures.
I have ridden in the Himalayas from Manali to Khardung La, Leh. to the top of the world’s highest motorable road at 18320ft. I’ve successfully done it with 10spd: 11-36, 39-26 ratio. So sticking with 10 speed, I knew my next dream build would be an upgraded version to conquer more high mountains.
With some calculations and few tweaks, it manages a high gear percentage with a wide range of ratios. (11÷42) 3.8 x 1.6 (42÷26) = 608%
The Stooge Scrambler is designed to run a single chain with a max of 36T. So cable housing stopper added on the 33.1mm seat tube, 3d printed shims to fit Shimano Deore MTB front derailleur to run 2x. A swing stopper pin removes from the Sram X9 cage to achieve the correct chain length to run the full range of gears.
Sram Apex road shifting on the hood of the widest Walmer bar makes the ride wilder in the trails. Custom CNC brackets to hold the older version Specialized pizza rack. It’s a party at the front and back!!:)
