Shovel Research FMCH $69
If you’re not impressed with the current offerings, make your own! That’s the Shovel Research mantra. After being dissatisfied with the commonly available fork-mounted cable hangers, Shovel Research did their own.
It has enough height to properly set up wide profile cantilver brakes. For those with a long distance from the headset to the cable carrier, this offers a more rigid hanger solution, while for those with very short headtubes this may simplify cable routing that would otherwise need a tight turn. For everyone, it minimizes cable rub when you use a front bag.
It has some drilled and tapped speed holes for the look, as well as a slot for lightness. CNC’d by Shovel Research in Portland, Oregon.

ORNOT Merino Wool Boxer Briefs $44
There was a brief (jokes!) discussion about merino boxers in John’s ORNOT Mission Short, short review last week, and he shared a link to the brand spankin’ new ORNOT boxer briefs. What’s cool about these (so many puns) is they’re American-made! That is not common, and these might be one of the few US-sewn boxer briefs on the market.

Five Ten Kestrel Boa For Men and Women $230
We reviewed the Five Ten Kestrel Boa a few years ago and they’ve become a crowd favorite over the years but it was the women’s model for 2023 that recently caught our eye with its simple, earth tone color palette.
The Five Ten Kestrel BOA is a dedicated downcountry/XC/rough gravel shoe that utilizes a full-length plate made in part with repurposed materials and reinforced with glass fiber provides excellent power transfer with added pedal stability.

Portland Design Works Rattlesnek Kej in Left or Right Entry $25
Inspired by the Watersnake bottle cages of the mid 90s but simplified for modern applications and available in both right and left entry, the PDW Rattlesnek Kej is made from a single sheet of lightweight 5052 alloy. Its sinuous body puts the squeeze on your water bottle while diamond cutouts make this cage nice and light. The side entry design works well for all frame sizes, and because the Rattlesnek Kej is available with the opening on either the left or right, you can access bottles from the same side of your bike when you have Rattlesneks mounted on both your downtube and seat tube.

Home Molly Cameron
Molly Cameron has been an openly transgender cyclist for more than two decades and in 2021 founded RIDE (Respect Inclusion Dignity and Equity), an organization which advocates for the LGBTQ+ community within sport and the outdoor industries. We had a chance to sit down with Molly and get her perspective on the importance of home, how it provides much more than just shelter, and how she navigates (literally) the country, advocating for a safer and more inclusive version of cycling.
