Gryphon Titanium Frameset £2500

While Singular Cycles weren’t the first to combine big wheels and drop bars, they were very much at the vanguard of the current era of creating these fun and versatile bikes. Combining big, wide-flared drop bars with big, wide tyres makes for a supple and synchronous ride over varied terrain.

Enter the Gryphon: the mythical mash-up of lion and eagle representing the ostensible clash between dropped handle bars and big knobbly tyres – perfectly harmonious in reality. The Gryphon foreshadowed bikes such as the Salsa Fargo and, subsequently the advent of ‘gravel’ bikes. The Gryphon was the first production 29″ wheeled, disc-braked, steel mountain bike frameset designed for use with a drop handlebar.

Specs:

  • 34mm ID head-tube – for a traditional 1 1/8″ steerer fork
  • Single chainring
  • 73mm BSA threaded bottom bracket shell
  • 142×12 thru axle
  • Internal dropper-post cable routing
  • Bolt-on cable guides on underside of down tube
  • Three bottle cage mounts – seat tube, down tube, underside of down tube
  • Post mount rear brake on the chainstay
  • Clearance for 29×2.4″ or 27.5×3.0″ tyres

Curve Cycling Rocket Pooch $149 AUD

Curve Cycling’s Rocket Pooch was born from the idea to create a simple, micro pannier bikepacking bag. They chose fabrics to help repel water, a design that lends itself to dry bag technology, and wanted plentiful pockets for storage. The mounting cage, of course, had to be titanium for strength in structure, performance under load, and lightweight.
