Rapha Has Two New Explore Shoes on the Way

We were poking around on Rapha’s website when we scoped two new Explore models, the Explore Powerweave–$380 and the Explore Shoes–$315. The Explore Powerweave takes the same shape and material as the Powerweave model we looked at in 2020 but in a new color. BTW, John still rides those shoes. The Explore Shoe takes a more traditional cross/gravel shoe silhouette and renders it in an olive and tan with a speckle sole. Both models also come in black.

Mod Straponz R200

Mod is a company from South Africa, started by two of our friends who make Jimny (a compact 4×4) accessories for car touring and camping. Yet they do make a bike product as well. The Straponz are mini cargo cages that bolt onto your bottle or cargo bosses and allow you to strap on gear like Nalgene, Klean Kanteens, Jetboils, and the like. They come in black, blue, or red and come with two cargo straps.

Ride in Peace, Bernhard Rohloff

On Friday, Rohloff sent out the unfortunate news that its founder, Bernhard Rohloff, had passed from Parkinson’s Disease:

“It is thanks to his ingenuity that gearbox equipped bicycles were also able to establish themselves in the field of sporting use, and have since been portrayed anew, as innovative and stylish products.

Bernhard Felix Rohloff, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, died peacefully and unexpectedly on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the age of 73.”

As you may or may not be aware, Bernhard changed the touring bike forever with his internal gear hub systems. Read the full press release at Rohloff.
