Grinduro California 2020 Registration Opens Tonight with Spots Saved for FTW Riders

As the only media outlet to cover every single Grinduro California race, I’d say it’s safe to say we’re the official Grinduro coverage website! The proof is in the pudding. With that said, we’re stoked to announce that the 2020 registration for the Mt. Shasta event on September 12th is open tonight at 7pm PDT, with 210 registration spots saved for FTW (femme, trans, women) riders. We can’t wait to provide our exceptional coverage this year, yet again! Especially with this recent announcement. Read the entire press release below…

Grinduro California is working hard to bring its unique blend of maxin’ and relaxin’ to Mt. Shasta on September 12, announcing new event host sponsor, Evil Bicycles, and a new initiative focused on gender inclusivity. Registration opens this Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00pm Pacific Time. At the same time as they are giving the gravel community something to look forward to, event organizers are collaborating with local officials to ensure safety of participants and the local community and Grinduro will offer deferrals or refunds in the event of cancellation due to Covid-19.

Evil Bicycles has joined Grinduro as the California host sponsor. This Bellingham-based brand recently launched their first gravel bike, the Chamois Hagar, and they know this bike will come to life at Grinduro. “Grinduro is all about showing just how rowdy drop bars can get because there’s more to gravel than grinding,” said Jason Moeschler, Evil Bicycles COO. “Just like Grinduro, Evil is bringing shred to gravel with our new Chamois Hagar. This bike brings speed, stability, and that irrefutable Evil mischief to the otherwise safe and sensible drop bar market. If Evil can bring that much party to a bike, just imagine what we’ll bring to Grinduro. We can’t wait to join the fun in Mt. Shasta!”

Grinduro is known for its welcoming attitude, and the California event is taking this reputation seriously with a new initiative focused on gender inclusivity. The event has set a goal to double the percentage of FTW (femme, trans, women) participants over last year from 15% to 30% and to promote more gender inclusivity. To help accomplish this, Grinduro California has added a new Open Gender category and reserved 210 registration spots for women and cyclists from across the gender spectrum, including riders who identify as trans and/or non-binary. “I have been racing for a long time,” said Amanda Schaper, Grinduro Event Director, “and events with more diversity are simply more fun. I am proud of what we’re doing to make all riders feel welcome at Grinduro California, and I hope other event organizers do the same. I’m especially excited to be partnering with the WTF Bikexplorers Gravel Team on some special event activations for the FTW community. Just imagine how much better the dance party will be after reaching our 30% FTW participation goal!”

Throughout all planning, Grinduro California organizers have been working closely with local officials to ensure the event meets all health and safety guidelines regarding Covid-19.

“Safety of the Mt. Shasta community and all Grinduro participants is our primary concern,” said Justi Hansen, Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance (SORA) Executive Director. “We are collaborating closely with the City of Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou County, Mt. Shasta Recreation and Parks District, and the U.S. Forest Service. All officials are in support of Grinduro, and we remain very hopeful that the event will happen as planned on September 12 in Mt. Shasta. We are so eager to share this amazing place with the Grinduro community.”

In addition to Evil Bicycles, Grinduro California is brought to life by founding sponsor Giro and global partners SRAM, Maxxis, Rapha, and Cycling Tips. The California event is also supported by Zipp, Komoot, Abbey Bike Tools, Robert Axle Project, and LOGE Camps. Registration opens Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00pm PDT.
