One of the reasons we love metal bikes is how they can get damaged in a wreck or even get hit by a car and be repaired. That’s what happened to Andrea from Cicli Barco. After a car hit him on a ride, resulting in a folded in the front end of his Piovan gravel bike, he decided to take a KINTSUGI approach to the repair. The final product is stunning, and we thought y’all would enjoy this one!
Presented here is a fully-custom Piovan gravel bike made with selected Columbus SPIRIT tubeset and Barco’s Primitiva finish.
The bike you see is a proper work of restoration we’ve done to Andrea’s from Barco’s bike named Pinky after a terrible car accident that literally broke his frame’s front end.
This is the reason why Barco, a small Italian framebuilders, named this project KINTSUGI PRIMITIVA.
KINTSUGI is the Japanese art of repairing with gold, and in this case the gold is represented by the hands of the artisans, who with their mastery can give new life to a frame that was destined to be lost among the scrap.
PRIMITIVA is the name of its unique finish, created by Maurizio by manipulating the protective treatment of our frames, giving an added value to the raw steel and showing its true essence: authentic, profound, primordial.
The custom geometry is focused on pure fun on dirty roads, so we mixed a reactive road geometry with a higher BB drop for more agility on technical terrains. The tubeset selection follows the same philosophy by mixing an oversized front end, balanced with a comfortable rear triangle for maximum 700 x 45mm tyre clearance.
Andrea didn’t miss the chance to give himself a treat after his narrow escape, so decided to simply get the best components for his resurrected bike.
