We’re here en route to the 2022 Sea Otter Classic after what feels like eons, and on our way to the event, we have been hanging out in Santa Cruz, California, at Caletti Cycles and the Chris King Guest House. This unique showcase features several framebuilders’ creations, all donning the new Chris King Wheelsets in road, gravel, and MTB. There’s a great mix of bikes from steel full suspensions, road bikes, a few tasty 29ers and a few surprises, so let’s check out the offerings below and a hefty gallery of the bikes and the hangs from the event…
Black Cat Cycles Rigid 29er
Todd from Black Cat brought this stunning rigid 29er built using various techniques, including fillet, brazing, and in-house lugs. The OddMoné bars are held by an in-house 22.2⌀ clamp stem, the head tube gusset/lugwork were hand-carved by Todd, the dropouts were machined and fabricated in-house, and the matte paint was also done in-house. Todd’s an “in-house” kinda fella and this bike is a stunning example of what he creates…
Caletti Cycles Titanium 29er Hardtail
John Caletti was the host of the Guest House event, and he showcased a titanium 29er, built with a tasty mix of parts, some beautiful anodizing work, a few hits of gold bling, and a complete Fox kit. You’re looking at one capable hardtail!
Cervelo Áspero
As something different, Chris King invited Cervelo who displayed a tasteful black Cervelo Áspero with silver Chris King bits…
Desalvo Cycles Ti All Road
Mike Desalvo is a master of his craft, as evident in this titanium all road with GRX Di2, a vintage livery-inspired paint, modest Gravel King tires, and a raw front end adorned with gold Chris King bits.
Sim Works Doppo Klunker
New for 2022, this special edition Sim Works Doppo is a double top tube, vintage klunker/cruiser inspired ATB design with a truss fork. These bikes will be available shortly from Sim Works direct and are made in the USA. Stay tuned here on The Radavist for a more in-depth look at this killer bikes.
Inglis Cycles Gravel Bike
Curtis Inglis brought a clean and pristine gravel bike with a 1x drivetrain, Zipp components, and a tasty blue paint job.
Moots Forager 4.5″ 27.5 Fatbike
Coming this September, the Forager is the new fatbike from Moots, replacing the popular frost hammer. Rolling on 4.5″ tires and an anodized camo design, this bike stopped people in their tracks all afternoon!
Simple Bicycle Co Single Pivot e-Bike
Perhaps the most technologically advanced bike of the bunch is this Simple Bicycle Co single-pivot e-MTB, designed, fabricated, and thrashed by Simple’s owner, Oscar. This unique single pivot is a high pivot design, which allows for more travel on the rear and smoother ride quality. Oscar plans to offer the rear swingarm as a stock system for framebuilders looking to build their single pivot bikes.
Stinner Frameworks Road
Aaron from Stinner Frameworks brought his road bike to showcase their in-house fabrication and finishing work. There were a lot of beautiful builds on display, but the paint on this thing was stunning!
Sycip Hardtail
Jeremy Sycip has been making hardtails for a very long time and his bikes have some iconic details that bloom. His segmented wishbone seat stay, complete with penny caps, and beautiful cast headtube badge sizzle while basking in the sun of that beautiful golden paint job!
