As a new year unfolds, we’ll begin with one of the most requested images of 2013. When I posted this photo of Kyle on his Stinner, people immediately emailed, requesting this be the January photo for the new PiNP Calendar. Even though it’s a few days late (sorry!), here ya go!

On top of my photos from the TXCX State Championships, I’ve really enjoyed flipping through the UK Track Cycling Flickr account tonight. Head over for more! So inspiring.
I am in no shape for racing. Well, that’s not completely true. It’s actually my cross bike that is out of shape. Bent rings, stretched cables, broken levers. My poor Geekhouse is in major need of some TLC. So when the Texas State Cyclocross Championships popped up this weekend, I decided to take the Pugsley out for some fun.
The short of it is: yes, that bike is heavy but it ate the sand pits alive, cornered exceptionally well, tackled all of the technical sections and as this photo shows, made barriers disappear. Then the head winds on the straight aways ate all speed… and the beer handups. Then the weed handups. Anyway, I had fun and it was a perfect way to end the season.
More to come, I just had so much fun riding this bike today that I wanted to share a photo!
I’ve been catching up on life back here in Austin and relaxing as much as possible before the year kicks off. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Get out and ride.
Where do I even begin with 2013? If I can say anything about PiNP, it’s that the site is ever-evolving, much like cycling and my own experiences with it. As my own habits change, so does the content. Looking back over the past twelve months, I still can’t wrap my head around how much I traveled. It was overwhelming at times, but in the end, worth it.
So where do we begin? How about with the first Photoset: a new camera.

Out of all the European frame builders, this name in particular resonates with me, as well as a majority of the rando crowd. Alex Singer’s shop in Levallois-Perret, Paris, France has become a mecca for cycling tourists. Kinoko cycles recently visited Singer’s shop and took some photos. See more at the Kinoko blog!
I’m back in Austin, before heading to NC to see my family next week for the Holidays and while I’m perfectly content being home, I miss these tracks and trails. This weekend, get out if you can. Although for most of the US, I doubt it’ll be this sunny!

I met Matt on one of the Friday Morning Caffeine Hustle rides in Los Angeles a few months back and bumped into him again at last weekend’s SoCal cross where he was shooting photos. At this point, there are so many photographers at cross races, that I just focus on the stuff I enjoy the most. Pretty easy to see what that is here…

I know I bid adieu to Los Angeles already, but Kyle and I had to do one last thing this morning before I left…
Is the riding in LA the best in the country, or did a group of my close friends make it that way and present me with a great time, every time I’m in town? Who knows. I enjoy riding in LA, be it MTB, road or cross and while I love to ride road here, I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the real dirty Los Angeles.
Oh and Ty can really boost his Surly Pugsley!

Sorry for the lack of updates today, I was out doing reconnoissance in the Angeles Forest. That and Tracko doesn’t have wifi at his bachelor pad. Speaking of no wifi, I doubt the De Rosa factory has it either.

Yesterday morning, Ty, Kyle, Sean, Moi and myself went out on a MTB ride. On the agenda: up to the top of Brown and down El Preito. I’d never done the full Brown climb before, the last time my rental bike broke down half way up the climb, so I was ready to see what all the fuss was.
We climbed up around 2,000′ from the trail head, soaked in the views of the Angeles Forest and bombed back down the double track to the El Preito entrance. On the way down, Ty found the elusive fatbike air!
El Preito was a lot of fun, especially on the Tallboy LTC. Tight switchbacks, rocky, technical descents down to stream crossings and lots of areas with “consequence” if you’re not paying attention. Basically, yes, it is an exceptional ride and worth doing if you haven’t!
Even though I’ve barely scratched the surface of all that Los Angeles has to offer on a MTB, I can say that what I’ve seen so far has me wanting more!

To party tomorrow night, then to ride some mountain bikes with the dudes from Golden Saddle, Mission Workshop and Team Dream Team. Hopefully, I’ll get to see something like this in person.

SSCXWC Qualifiers: normally, that means a bunch of clipless, singlespeed warriors racing around a closed course in some city park, but this year, it was in Philly and Philly don’t fuck around. More to come, but for now, see the rest of Dylan’s photos here!
