Matt Lingo recently was sent a substantial care package from the guys at Velodeath, so he and Josh Hayes took to the woods for some October shreddage. Head over to RecFail to see a few more photos.

Merckx Mondays
Eddy Merckx and Jacky Ickx? Sure!
In cooperation with Tijdsbeeld & Pièce Montée, 9000 studios will make the new website Mercxickx.be. Eddy Merckx and Jacky Ickx might be the greatest sports icons Belgium has ever produced. In 2015, both gentlemen are blessed with 70 candles on their birthday cake, which is celebrated with a grand exhibition.
Grand, like the careers of both gentlemen. Eddy Merckx, the best cyclist of all times, won everything there was to win, including five GC victories in the Tour de France, The Giro, The Vuelta and seven times Milaan San Remo. Jacky Ickx is one of the most complete car racers to ever press down a throttle pedal. Amongst other things, he won 8 F1 grand prixs, six times the prestigeous 24 hours of Le Mans and the Paris Dakar rally. Two international sports icons, two proud Belgians. If anyone deserve’s an exhibition, it’s them.

Congrats to Everyone Who Raced the Red Hook Crit Milano
Photos by Francesco Dolfo
I’ve been looking for some photos to post about the Red Hook Crit Milano and to congratulate my girl Ash Duban for crushing the women’s race. She shared the podium with Eduard Grosu, the winner of the men’s race.
This year’s Red Hook Crit series has been exhilarating to watch. Congrats to everyone who raced in it. Now, go check out all of Francesco’s photos.

I Love Visiting Framebuilders in Austin
Since moving all of their production from Oregon to Austin, Chumba‘s been cranking out their mountain bike frames in house. Today after a quick trail ride with Vince from Chumba, he took me out to their facilities so I could see their office and fabrication shop.
All I have to say is I’m stoked to see this going down in Austin, just 30 minutes from my home.
More to come!

Rubber Side Up 06
I think it’s safe to say, everyone who races cross wants to be able to do this. It shaves seconds off any gap the racer in front of you might have and puts more time between you and the racers behind.
Bunnyhopping barriers isn’t easy by any means, especially when they’re set at USAC’s max height of 40cm and on an uphill, but at yesterday’s race, I put all my skills learned from riding trails on my cross bike, MTB shredding and yes, the old days of FGFS to the test and hopped them every lap of the 50 minute B race. Here’s another angle.
Now that I’ve got my rhythm, I’m feeling even more confident and can’t wait to apply this useful skill to future races…

Merckx Mondays
Vintage, black and white photos of Eddy Merckx will always be my favorite. Here’s one from 1969, Eddy racing in the TDF time trial race Revel-Revel. On his yellow jersey is the number 51, a marveled pairing of numbers in the Tour’s history.
Back then, “Champions are born with the back number 51” was a common saying in the Peloton and with good reason. Many legends were adorned by these digits: Eddy Merckx, Louison Bobet, Bernard Thèvenet and Luis Ocana. All of which exceeded a simple win and elevated themselves into cycling’s history.
Thanks to the Flickr stream of Walter Vermeulen for this week’s Merckx Mondays!

I Already Miss The Sequoias
Out of all the mountain bike destinations I’ve been to, I gotta say the Sequoias were the most memorable. There’s something magical about that place and I feel like it’s overlooked when it comes to the standard MTB coverage you see.
Point being, it’s a few hours from Los Angeles (three to be exact), so if you get a chance to go, drive out, stay in Camp Nelson at the Belknap Campground, shred some bikes and get some dinner at Nelson’s Tavern.
You can thank Ty for the pointers afterwards!
