This year, at the Red Bull Rampage, Jeff from Monkey Likes Shiny supplied the trophies. If you recall, Jeff made that super slick gravity bike a few years back. PinkBike has a nice story up of Jeff that you should check out for some insight into how Jeff’s hyper creative mind works.
When it comes to iconic cycling products, over the years Golden Saddle Cyclery’s caps have gained quite the following. Chances are, if you go to a bike event, anywhere on Earth, someone will be wearing one. While wearing is part of owning a cap, I recently bought a set to display in my office, because, like all good things, I want to be able to hold onto them for a while.
Golden Saddle has restocked two of the designs, so head on over and swoop a set up. To be sweated in or just for display.

Jon Azkoitia has been a reader of the Radavist since the early blogspot days of PiNP and one of his favorite features is Merckx Mondays. When he began riding track bikes, it was due to his father’s love of track racing and Jon didn’t have just any introduction, he was given a Molteni-team Colnago track. For those who weren’t aware, the first few Molteni Eddy Merckx frames were made by De Rosa and Colnago before Eddy began making his own in Meise, a small town outside of Brussels.
Prior to Jon’s father, this bike was owned by Milano-SanRemo winner Michele Dancelli, who raced it for a number of years in the Molteni livery. The bike was then raced by Jon’s father for nearly 40 years! Needless to say, once Jon was handed down the frame, he felt it was time for a restoration, so Jon looked to the original heritage of the frame and did an amazing job.

In the world of cyclocross team kits, you can go a few directions. First of which being the standard issue (and most common), three or four colored panels and a bunch of sponsor logos with a pixelated team graphic. Second, you can go just plain crazy. All-over animals, cupcakes, donuts, cats, pandas, whatever. The brighter the better, more is more, instead of less is more.
From the looks of the new TCB Cyclocross kit, they went the third route: classy, with just the right amount of logos and clearly inspired by Cali surf style of the 1980’s. Now, if they only all piled into a Datsun to get to the races. Ok, or a YOTA.

Mission Workshop at 541 Valencia is open!
They’ve cut through the back wall of their warehouse on Rondel alley and expanded to Valencia street, creating what can only be referred to as the Mission Workshop Industrial Complex in the heart of San Francisco.

Yeah, this was probably better for last week’s Merckx Mondays, due to Halloween and all, but I missed Simon’s email. Seriously though, I’m stoked he used Merckx Mondays to inspire a series of illustrations at his site, aptly named Merckx Mondays.

Later on this week, Beat the Clock Cycling is going on a superrrrrr chilllllll bicycle tour. We’re rolling to some low-key parks and campgrounds southwest of town and one of the dudes going on the ride is Spencer, who’s taking his new Icarus.
Last week, he got to break it in on a ride in Fredericksburg where he lives.

There’s been big changes going on at Stinner Frameworks HQ. For one, Aaron moved shop out of his garage and into a brand new workshop and yesterday, Stinner Frameworks welcomed their newest shop hand to the family, Chris Ellefson aka Mini Bear.

Man, one of these days I’m gonna make it out to the Chris King Gourmet Century. The guys just posted photos from the recent Sonoma County event on the Chris King blog. Head over to see what the Buzz is about.
From time to time, enthusiasts, hobbyists and collectors get an itch. An itch to make a vintage “replica” bike, modeled after any number of liveries or teams. For Andy White of FYXO, he really, really wanted a replica Molteni.
A frame came up in Eddy’s exact measurements, 58cm TT, 60cm ST, but it was from the wrong era, so he filed off the front derailleur hanger and painted the seat stay caps to resemble Eddy’s team bike. From there, fresh paint and decals were applied by Sun Graphics. He’s even got a flat crown fork, instead of the sloping crown.
Then, well, life happened. He had a kid and has to let her go. The frame, not his daughter.

I can’t begin to fathom weather like this, as it’s still 90 degrees here in Austin, but then again, we don’t have giants like Mt. Baker in our backyard and we’re pretty damn far south. Photos like these, taken just this weekend, serve as reminders of how truly powerful mother nature is.
Andy and Kelly decided to try to make it as far up Highway 542 as they could, not realizing it’d be literally under feet of snow. Even that couldn’t keep them from the Mountains of Madness…
