“Bicycle FIlm Festival celebrates its 13th edition with more Bikes, Art, Music and, of course, Films! It’s time for the Where the Hell Is Waldo Quatro: All City Scavenger Hunt!

“Where the Hell Is Waldo Quatro is an annual scavenger hunt race that was created 4 years ago in DTLA, as a way to bring together messengers and commuters in a fun race setting. It’s a traditional Alley cat style race with checkpoints only; no set route. Winning is not just based on speed, but your knowledge of the city streets as well. This is the second year that we’ve hosted this event in three cities (Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Brooklyn) on the same day! The Waldo race is growing and might be expanding to 2 more cities next year! Ride safe ride fast!”

I jokingly said the other day to a friend that the hardest thing about my trip to China with Mission Workshop wasn’t actually being in China, it was sorting through all my photos. Over 20 rolls of 220 film, 10 rolls of 35mm were accumulated in the three weeks I found myself in Asia. Imagine having to sort through all that and pull together a concept.

This is “The Ends”, a book of photographs that is being released at my photography show at Mission Workshop this Saturday, June 15th. You can Pre-Order the book now and it’ll ship Monday, June 17th. We’ve already got the copies and they look amazing. Each copy was printed in Oakland.

Setting out from Shanghai, John Watson and Mission Workshop began their cycling tour of China’s Yangtze River Delta. Using both film and digital formats, Watson photographed the surroundings and encounters with the local community. Led by their friends from Factory Five, they headed into a frenetic network of massive residential complexes, large industrial parks, and super highways. At first glance, the route seemed straightforward, however, the reality of the 1,000km trip was far more intense than anyone expected.

The following photographs from their trip were taken by John Watson, depicting his impression of what is meant by “the ends justify the means.”

Neil Bezdek won the Red Hook Crit Navy Yard Brooklyn track crit last night. The course was fast and almost immediately, Neil and Kyle Murphy broke away, before being caught by Marc Marino who finished third (hell yeah dude!!!!). Finishing fourth and fifth were Alex Barouh and Cooper Ray.

A lot of the race favorites flatted out, some crashed but Neil took his fourth all-time victory at the Red Hook Crit.

My trip to China with Mission Workshop and Factory 5 was amazing on so many levels. With so much stimuli, it’s still difficult for me to convey what it was like to ride a bike there but that’s where this photo show steps in. “The Ends” is more than a photo show, it’s a collection of moments captured while pedaling through some of the most unique landscapes I’ve ever been to.

On Saturday, June 15th, I’m displaying a selection of my film photos from my two weeks in China. There will be a run of softcover books, as well as a few prints of the above photo for sale. Come early, stay late. More details to follow…

As part of their First Thursday Rapha Exhibition series, Rapha will be presenting select pieces from the Continental, as well as a group ride on Friday:

Lunch Ride With The Rapha Continental
On Friday June 7th, Rapha North America will host a group ride with the riders of The Rapha Continental at 12:30 PM. The ride will depart from and finish at the Rapha North America offices at 1915 NW Kearney Street in Northwest Portland. The ride will be approximately 35 miles and will include Skyline Road, Rock Creek Road and Old Germantown Road. All levels welcome, the ride will take place rain or shine.

Adam from Stanridge Speed has really won over the world of the track bike criteriums with his made in the USA race machine, the Highstreet. This Thursday, June 6th, head to Chrome’s NYC Hub to chat with Adam and drink some beer.

On a side note: Dan Chabs can wheelie? Lets see him do that when he smashes everyone yet again at Red Hook Crit Brooklyn Navy Yard. You guys don’t stand a chance!

If you live in Austin and like to race bikes, this might be your only chance to win a race. Why? Because the dude who always wins races (road, alleycat, ss cross, whatever) is out of commission. Luke Kalloch broke his wrist a few weeks back in a road race and has accumulated a hefty surgery bill. To help him out, Beat the Clock Cycling Club is throwing a benefit race and after-party. Luke is one of the nicest (fast guys) you’ll ever meet, so come out and show your support.

It’s a night of Made in the USA bicycles, components and accessories at Shelter Half in LA.

“Tonight is the night to celebrate cycling product made in the USA. On view will be all three models from Detroit’s Shinola, a beautiful one-off Sycip Java Boy, and the Cielo Tanner Goods Edition bicycle. Also in store is plentiful product from Swrve Cycling, a personal favorite of mine. Matt and Muriel of Swrve will be there tonight to detail the wonderful features of their BLK Label line. There will be a handful of Paul Components as well as product from Mission Workshop. This is all on top of Shelter Half’s already amazing selection of goods from all over the US. The event starts at 7pm and is located at Shelter Half, 161 South La Brea.“

Since receiving low res scans of my 220 and 35mm film from the Mission Workshop China tour, I’ve been slowly editing down the photos for a show and a limited edition book. Lyndi from Mission Workshop has been a huge help in editing down all the photos and in this selection process, we’ve found a surprising number of pairings. It’s nice to finally nail down a concept.

My photo show and book launch, entitled the Ends will be taking place on Saturday, June 15th in San Francisco at Mission Workshop. More details to come on the event but mark that date down.
