The most essential component in a custom bicycle is the fit. It’s difficult to have an in-person fit experience these days with customers ordering from across the country or around the globe. Because of this, builders will chose to rely on either previous bicycle’s geometries or body charts. While it is possible to hit the nail on the head with these metrics, having the proper fit can be difficult without letting a builder witness how your body relates to the bicycle and vice versa. Hence the Speedvagen Fit Tour. Bringing the builder to the customer.
For Speedvagen and Sacha White, the owner of the Vanilla Workshop, fit is paramount for frame design and execution. In short: a bicycle should fit like a tailored suit. Every millimeter counts. Sacha’s fit philosophy is obsessive, thorough and merits a total fit experience. One that coincidentally, has been mobile for the past few weeks as it took to the road in California.
I love seeing brands working together for a greater good. Machines for Freedom and Mission Workshop are bringing a series of events and rides to San Francisco, beginning May 14th as a two-week long celebration of the female cyclist.
These Girls are Machines will feature a pop-up shop by women’s cycling brand Machines For Freedom, an art gallery presented by Fast Chance Collective showcasing pieces by five local women artists and cyclists, and many other events and group rides designed to help carve out a space for women riders in the Bay Area.
Check out the full schedule below!
Don’t forget! Tomorrow the Speedvagen Fit Tour lands in Los Angeles, beginning with a group ride at 9am from Golden Saddle Cyclery. We’ll ride for a few hours before the party starts at 7:30pm… See ya there!
the 2015 Red Hook Crit Brooklyn
Photos and words by Chris Lee and Chris Dilts.
This past weekend, racers and spectators gathered for the eighth annual Red Hook Crit. Unlike previous years, this last Saturday provided far more sun and warmth, although racers had to fight against considerable gusts of wind all day.
2015 brought the most diverse field of racers in the history of the Red Hook Crit. With 29 countries represented, it was a melting pot of nationalities staging in the Cruise Terminal, where riders warmed up before the races. Additionally the number of competitors in the women’s field more than doubled from last year, boasting a healthy 79 racers registered.
Like last year, multiple qualifying heats during the day were used to advance and place racers in the two feature races later that night. The men’s field had a new addition of the “Last Chance” race. The “Last Chance” race was a 14 lap crit with the top 10 finishers were added to the feature race.
At the end of the night, Ivan Ravaioli and Ainara Arteaga took home the win, the medals, the custom RHC Cinelli track bike, and the glory.

The 2015 Red Hook Crit lands in Brooklyn this weekend for the eighth time and while the main race is sure to draw crowds, there are multiple parties and events throughout the week. Check out some of the after and pre-parties below.
It’s crazy to think that the Melburn Roobaix is in its 10th year and that registration is already almost open… This year, each registrant gets free access to the Melbourne Custom Bicycle Show as well as a commemorative cap. I gotta say, I’ve got the itchin’ to pick up a ticket again.
Head to Melburn Roobaix for more information and to Coffee Supreme in Melbourne on April 18th and 19th to register early.
Like many people, we decided to make a weekend of the Eroica California. Rather than fly or drive in for the ride itself. The city of Paso Robles hosted the event this year and since it’s smack dab in wine country, there were numerous places to eat good food and plenty cheap wine to go around. Luckily, my friends at Giro had rented a house, so a few of us camped out in the yard, atop a bluff overlooking town, rather than have to spring on a hotel.
If you’re a lady just getting into mountain biking, or perhaps you’d like to start off but are intimated by the trails in Austin, the Ladies All Ride are hosting one of their Grit Clinics out at Pace Bend on May 9th – 10th. These clinics are setup for various skill levels and are meant to be extremely non-intimidating.
Head on over to Ladies All Ride for more information!
Cobbled Climbs and a Bucket (list) full of Belgian Chocolate Easter Eggs
Photos and Words by Jeff Curtes
Everyone (even in warm sunny Sydney!) dreams of seeing and riding The Spring Classics… the legendary riders, the infamous cobbled climbs, and the chaos that the incredibly insane parcours guarantee. And a chance to ride the routes a day before the hard men battle for legendary status? What the hell have I been doing every April? This was the year, and without hesitation, I booked a flight from Sydney to Brussels and was off…
