I Survived the First Day at 2015 Interbike

… and all I got was a shot of bourbon (I did get to keep the shot cup.) Thanks, Blackburn!

Well, we’re here again. Las Vegas, Nevada for Interbike, the cycling industry’s convention where all the new products are unveiled to media, shop owners and the public. It’s overwhelming, like it is every year yet I managed to find some really interesting (and innovative) products.

Things to note:
Arkel‘s Bikepacking Bags are genius!
Moots‘ YBB+ MTB
Giro‘s Grinduro VR90 Empires
Maxxis‘ Rambler 40mm tubeless tires
Brooks‘ C13 assemblage

… and more!

Q&A With Chris Chance at Mission Workshop TONIGHT!

Tonight at Mission Workshop in SF, I’ll be moderating a discussion with Chris Chance of Fat Chance Bicycles. Here’s the scoop:

“Chris Chance is bringing back Fat Chance Bicycles. Making a killer bike back in the day wasn’t easy and bringing it back to life 15 years after closing down shop can’t be either. Chris will be speaking at Mission Workshop San Francisco Saturday August 15th. John Watson will be leading the questions, but attendees are welcome to ask Chris what’s on their mind. The talk will be live streamed on TheRadavist.com so you can follow along from your garage, but if you’re local, email rsvp@missionworkshop.com to grab a seat. Beers start at 5pm, doors close at 6:30pm. Talk starts at 7pm.”

We hope to see you there!

Words and photos by Kevin Scott Batchelor

The last time I got the call to cover a Rapha Prestige event, I found myself wondering how any of the teams were going to handle the brutal course that had awaited them. More than 130 miles with 14,000 feet of climbing, on mixed terrain, with dizzying temperatures, sounded much more like a stage in the Vuelta than something my friends might ride. LA was a monster, complete with jagged teeth and scorching breath. With only a fraction of the teams finishing what was surely the hardest ride of their riding lives, this would be the last of the pro tour level parcours, right?

The 2015 Speedvagen Australia Fit Tour

Hey Aussies! Get ready, the 2015 Speedvagen Australia Fit Tour is heading your way!

“Sacha White and The Vanilla Workshop are preparing to take off on the second leg of the Speedvagen Fit Tour. This trip takes Speedvagen to Australia, specifically Sydney and Melbourne. In addition to fitting new Speedvagen customers, there will be rides in each city as well as evening events open to the public. Fresh off the success of the California Fit Tour, extending the program is a natural progression, reaching customers that would normally not make it to Portland for a personal fitting with Sacha.

There are limited spots available, as each fit takes 2-3 hours. Spending this much time working with each customer allows Sacha to understand each rider’s unique strengths, needs, and limitations. The end result is your dream bike, completely tuned to your riding style. Learn more about the Australia Fit Tour or schedule a fit session with Sacha here.”

Sydney Dates: August 24th – 30th at the Rapha Cycle Club
Melbourne Dates: Sept 1st – 6th at Shifter Bikes

The Official Get Sick Day Worldwide Recap
Photos from a whole lotta folks and words by Sean Talkington

Think about what we use our personal or sick days for? Dumb stuff. Staying home sick (or if you have kids you stay home when they get sick), going to the doctor, going to the DMV, jury duty, visiting in-laws, funerals, etc. Question: What do all of these things have in common? The Answer: None of them are fun. Sure, you can schedule your vacation time around whatever events you want but what if you really just want or need a single day to get your head right? Can you just tell your boss “I think I am going to skip tomorrow and ride my bike locally all day with some buddies. Might do a little swimming too. Fuck it. Maybe even grab tacos after and watch the sunset.” Some of you have awesome bosses but the majority of us are afraid to take a day off for ourselves…
