Some say small wheels equal more fun. Dave’s Bike Friday All Packa is a testament to that and to up the ante, his is set up fixed gear. Let’s check out this wild bike and Dave’s review below!
Here is about the most fun I’ve had on two wheels in a long time.
It’s a 2022 bike Friday All-Packa that I set up with a mix of parts: Paul hubs, a 46t ring on a 170 mm Ritchey square taper crank, 17t Problem Solvers bolt on cog, Paul Klampers, Avid Levers, Wolftooth headset, Kenda booster 20×2.4″ tires setup tubeless, Velocity Cliffhanger rims, and Techtonic pedals
I have a new fork and rear triangle coming to allow for a tire up to 2.8″.
Jpaks bags, a Widefoot cage, and some aluminum I had made into a low rider front rack.
I’ve always lusted after Moulton Bikes and the Burro Bikes out of Big Bear, California in the early 2000s. This rig has been so nice to travel with and have a incredibly capable bike to take and use when I might have to fly, be a passenger in a small car or take the train.
It really pedals nearly like a “normal” sized wheel bike. In some technical single track situations it’s a bit of a handicap but in others the small wheels allow for steering around things, dare I say flickable?
It’s little wheel acceleration is quite fun with the fixedgear drivetrain and on some of my local routes it’s faster than my full size fixedgears.
In less than a year, it’s been on plenty of gravel, single track, and adventures in Colorado and California and nearly 1000 miles as I’ve written this!
I hope you enjoy it!
